The Isle of Armor
The first new adventure unlocked by the Expansion Pass will take place on the Isle of Armor, an island of the Galar region. Many Pokémon make this island their home, living freely amid the lush nature. The island is also home to a dojo for Pokémon battles. Players and their Pokémon will train hard to become stronger under Mustard, the master of this dojo.
The Crown Tundra
The second area unlocked by the Expansion Pass is the snow-swept realm of the Crown Tundra. In this frigid yet beautiful landscape—with its jagged winter mountains and shining, silvery landscape—people live in small communities where they support and rely on one another. A man named Peony will appoint the player as the leader of his exploration team in the Crown Tundra and task them with investigating the reaches of this frozen land. Players will also be able to explore the depths of the Pokémon Dens seen during Max Raid Battles. What's more, it seems several previously unseen Legendary Pokémon make the Crown Tundra their home.

Explore the Wild Area, a vast expanse of land where the player can freely control the camera. Team up with three other players locally or online in the new multiplayer co-op Max Raid Battles* in which players will face off against gigantic and super-strong Pokémon known as Dynamax Pokémon.

Trainers who purchase either the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass or the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass soon after the launch of The Isle of Armor expansion (or players who have already prepurchased it) will be able to receive Leon's cap and tights as an early-purchase in-game bonus. Players will be able to receive these items after the release of The Isle of Armor (by the end of June 2020) until 7:59 A.M. PDT on Monday, August 31, 2020.
- To receive the above items, you'll need to open the X menu. From the X menu in your game, go to Mystery Gift, select Get a Mystery Gift, then select Get via Internet. The Mystery Gift menu option will appear in the X menu after you visit your first Pokémon Center in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. (This occurs after about an hour of gameplay. However, individual gameplay time may vary.) You can see the clothing items you've received by visiting an in-game boutique fitting room.
- An internet connection is required to receive the above items.
- A paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required to receive the above items.
- Those who purchased the Expansion Pass before the above items were revealed will still be able to receive these items after the release of The Isle of Armor.
If you purchase the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass or the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass, you'll receive two codes redeemable to get two special uniform sets of in-game apparel as a bonus.
The Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass is only compatible with the Pokémon Sword game and the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass is only compatible with the Pokémon Shield game. Please only choose the Expansion Pass for the full game that you own. If you own both the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games and want access to the Expansion Passes for both games, both the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass and the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass are required. Loved the game in it's physical version because our household has 3 switches to play it with. It's so easy for us to switch the cartridge and play it under our own profiles so as to not have to buy it digitally 3 separate times. Totally worth hunting it down.
Save files from Sword/Shield do apply to these combo pack games too! It was a concern I had that my save files from the original games wouldn’t necessarily apply to these technically other versions! A good, valid question to ask and here’s the answer!
Great game, and the expansion pass is on the physical cartridge.
bought this as a birthday gift for a friend (been trying to get them into this series for a while now) and it was a great start for their journey into Pokemon :)
Really fun game, really large compared to other pokemon games. Traveling in this game is much easier than others.
