I've seen mixed answers for this, but I ordered a new version of the Steel Book Launch Edition a couple days ago and was wondering if I'd get the normal version or the steel book version since it's been months since the game came out.

Played Persona 5 recently and loved it. I want to get Royal but I'm not sure if it's worth the money. Is the gameplay worth paying this much?

I would say it’s definitely worth it. P5R is a great addition to the already fantastic story of the original, and it adds extra locations, confidants and overall gameplay mechanics. I really enjoyed both games, and P5R didn’t feel like a forced sequel due to the popularity of its predecessor. It actually had substance, which is sometimes uncommon for sequels nowadays. So I would definitely recommend having a go at the game.

First I’d like to point out that Persona 5 Royal is the best directed game I’ve ever played. The seamless and extraordinarily well crafted fusion of Anime, Magna comic screen play, in the fore ground to what looks like a Bayonetta engine moved turn based, all in synthesis with a very complimentary music score and ancillary menu art presents the game in such a fashion that is so stunningly beautiful that you might think that no matter what was being framed in such a way, could not possibly meet failure. Without a doubt the Director of this game’s mechanics gets a 110% approval in this review, and the teams involved with the menus, art, and music deserve great praise as well; only followed somewhat distant by the engine’s 3D interface that looks like might have been ported from as far back as the Dreamcast. All of which taken together would cement a solid A; and if put to a story line that you would find in Phantasy Star (SMS) or Lunar Silver Star Story (Sega CD) you might find a game here that should be included in those Legendary annals. However, the story found here in Persona 5 Royal is possibly the worst, borderline offensive, social media programming, morally relative tripe I have ever encountered, and at times found myself walking away from a game session having to remind myself that the experience that I had just invested time and money in has been brought to me by a culture that frequents itself in the industry of tentacle erotic imagery. I will explain why. Persona 5 Royal undoubtedly comments heavily on “modern” cultural norms, or at least some narrow “distorted” view of them. Unlike the traditional boyhood stories of saving Sleeping Beauty from a Dragon, Princess Zelda from the boar monster Gannon, Princess Peach from a spiked giant turtle Bowser, or your childhood sweetheart Luna from the clutches of a dark wizard; Persona 5 Royal places you as an anonymous social justice warrior, risking it all for morally relative or entirely ambiguous erotic harassment allegations, by individuals that you have either just met or entirely do not even know. The premise of the story in Persona 5 Royal is driven home rather early in the game when you, chosen name, an otherwise timid unassertive teenager, are walking home late one night, when you respond to a woman’s cry for help to what may be a possible erotic coercive situation. Where your half hearted, entirely ineffectual intervention is met with an authoritarian state response of police intervention and legal actions upon you, seemingly never to be explained or revisited. Immediately afterward, you are thrust into a highly oppressive daily situation and meet a highly erotically charged female that appears to be in another erotic coercion situation. However unlike the aforementioned situation that launches the premise of the game, this time the reasons for intervention are less morally clear, and the intervention itself will completely ruin the life of an Olympic gold medalist, who is apparently carrying the hopes and dreams of an entire academy and everyone in it. Presented no real choice in the story arc to not get involved you are thrust into an anonymous quest against this PE teacher involving an inexplicable cell phone application, a whole lot of foul language to include continual reference to adults and a constant reaffirmation of the ever presence over the top erotica of the erotically harassed individual in question as she prances about half the time bending over with full cleavage, in a red skin tight body suit, not lacking zippers in any place, with thigh high boots, and cat mask complete with tail. Persona 5 Royal begins with anonymously destroying the life of an Olympic gold medalist via internet application in a highly morally relative/ambiguous situation that has on the face of it, little or nothing to actually do with the protagonist, and then after selling his gold medal at a pawn shop, streamlines such activities into a group called the Phantom Thieves, where presumably anyone at all can lodge an internet complaint via website where the social justice erotic harassment anonymous phantom squad will dispense morally relative/ambiguous justice upon the adults while the website programmer bans and deletes anyone posting opposition to such an operation. Here 35 hours in is where I am writing the review and I haven’t mentioned the Igor character which seemingly has you return to a dream prison where an imaginary image of yourself (persona) is constantly and repeatedly subject to French execution for the sake of your “rehabilitation”; as this is where I will likely put the game down. Summarily, Persona 5 Royal had great potential, and was highly disappointing. I have been a long time SEGA supporter, Phantasy Star, Lunar, Sonic. Persona 5 Royal, is an entirely wasted effort and cements the victory of Nintendo over SEGA, possibly even cements SEGA as a forever defeated gaming company. The only redeemable value is that the entire meta platform for this game be ported to a more clear and enjoyable story arc, maybe the will do that with PSOii; P5R is upsetting to the point of unplayable.
