It's nice to see how they took their work on injustice 2, heard what customers liked and didn't, and then adapted it to their next installment of MK. For me it doesn't have a tone of lasting appeal. The story is great, the fighting mechanics are well done, and exploring the Krypt is interesting, but after that it's just endless fighting, which is fun, just not on a consistent basis.

Beyond that, it’s a bit too much of a grind fest to randomly unlock mostly lackluster skins, equipment and other collectibles and the Fatal Blow/Enhancement meter replacing the XRay meter is a step down, in my opinion. It’s still MK fun, but it could be significantly better.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Joshua Baldock from Overall experience The story mode takes about 8 hours to complete; a lot longer than previous installments. It’s fun if you have a lot of koins to go to the krypt and gather everything, but if not, the game just ends there unless you do the towers, tutorials, or any miscellaneous. The graphics are a lot cleaner/sharper, but one thing I miss is really seeing the x-ray feature they had in XL. I understand they wanted to make a better custom variation on your favorite character, but again, that all deals with the koin and krypt. If you want to keep with the franchise, it’s a good installment to it but just be warned, it gets to the same plateau of staleness eventually.
