The game overall is pretty good. Good story, decent mechanics. Not too hard but not to easy. Its just not very Silent Hill-esque. The enemies are more humanoid than most previous SH games. The real appeal here is some of the “trippy” stuff that happens, which would be more similar to an Evil Within game. Example, running down a hallway and right when you get to the end it expands. Or running up an endless staircase. Etc.
If you’re an achievement hunter, it’s definitely worth it as you can get all achievements in 3 playthrough if done right. The only issue I have in that sense is the unskippable cutscenes. By the third playthrough I was just over the cutscenes.
The game does have a good amount of content, too. If you did zero sidequests you’d still have 4 hours of gameplay. With sidewuests it’s upwards of 10 hours of game play. The sidequests, however, are only worth it for the achievements. Since it’s an older game I got it for pretty inexpensive, and I feel like I got my moneys worth.
So overall, not a bad experience for a game in the survival horror genre. But not a great experience deserving of the Silent Hill title.
