Not bad Silent Hill.

That's got some problems. Some quality-of-life issues. But, If you're a Silent Hill fan (not just the first three games) and you don't automatically hate a new installment to a series just because it's new, you might like this one.

Pretty good for a game, not worthy of SH

The game overall is pretty good. Good story, decent mechanics. Not too hard but not to easy. Its just not very Silent Hill-esque. The enemies are more humanoid than most previous SH games. The real appeal here is some of the “trippy” stuff that happens, which would be more similar to an Evil Within game. Example, running down a hallway and right when you get to the end it expands. Or running up an endless staircase. Etc. If you’re an achievement hunter, it’s definitely worth it as you can get all achievements in 3 playthrough if done right. The only issue I have in that sense is the unskippable cutscenes. By the third playthrough I was just over the cutscenes. The game does have a good amount of content, too. If you did zero sidequests you’d still have 4 hours of gameplay. With sidewuests it’s upwards of 10 hours of game play. The sidequests, however, are only worth it for the achievements. Since it’s an older game I got it for pretty inexpensive, and I feel like I got my moneys worth. So overall, not a bad experience for a game in the survival horror genre. But not a great experience deserving of the Silent Hill title.

Took a chance on this...

I wasn't sure that this game was compatible with the One X, but after noting to the salesman that I saw it played on YouTube on an Xbox One, he said if it works with the One, it should work with all of the series. That said, definitely a creepy game, as I would expect of Silent Hill (love the movies, but then they're based on the games). There are some things I haven't figured out yet, like how to bring up the map at any other time than when you find something to add to the journal. Graphics are pretty good given its age (2012).

My favorite Silent Hill game

This game features great gameplay, great mechanics/controls, and that eerie Silent Hill atmosphere. It's also a fairly long game full of immersion and awesome aesthetics. I originally played this on PS3 but then got a Xbox One X and purchased the 360 version thanks to backward compatibility so now it looks and plays even better than before. Not only is this a great game, but playing it on Xbox One X is the best console experience.

Good but pretty confusing

This game is good by confusing. It is not a easy game at all. There are really hard parts too. It can be a pretty disturbing game. The graphics are good for a older game. The voice acting is good. The gameplay isn’t bad either. But overall it is a good game.

It strays a little

Mainly I play the series titles for the puzzles and I like to see how developers use the Silent Hill backstory to create an original entry. I consider the Silent Hill backdrop to be quintessential to any nightmarish type of gameplay: a mysterious scenario, singular but powerful protagonist motivation, many harrowing invisible threats that can only be run or hidden from (survival), and oft-times zany, outrageous, and mostly impossible environments. Technically speaking though, videos games have lost the intense dark nature they originally portrayed in the early 90's. I blame this on advancements in graphics and more mainstream attention. There will never be another game as satisfying as the original Silent Hill with current gen tech because it would be far too revolting, and a remake might take away from the "video-gameness" that rough pixilation gave it.

I got this game cause I played it before so I wanted to try it again. The game isn’t too bad. Til you are stuck in a place where you have no idea what you are supposed to do. What do I do now. Very frustrating. Still a pretty good game.

I love the Silent Hill world, but its been in a "DownPour" for years now. The first 3 I feel were the best. The 2nd being my favorite. Yes this game had a lot of upgrades since the 5th installment, but I still see the same flaws. That annoying camera being one. In most games the "autosave" feature is a blessing, but for this kind of game I found it annoying. (Bring back the red notepads!!!) DownPour is fun. I'll play a 2nd time, but its no hall of famer.
