I've had this game for about 2 weeks now and it is phenomenal. The gameplay is really fun and this game goes back to the golden days when a game was difficult and made you think. Not like today's games who appeal to the lazy gamer that doesn't want to get better at the game, but have the game dumbed down to the point they can play on par with the best players. You must think, it is clear the people who hate on this game don't or cant. Scratch damage is needed to win, don't do what most people and see scratch damage and direct damage, and presume scratch is unneeded, you'll find that is where a lot of the unwarranted complaints come from. Don't always lead with scratch and break the enemy's gauge if it's going to be a hard fight. Don't spam hero actions and be made defenseless because you ran out of hero tokens. just cause you can dual wield doesn't always mean you should ( I see this mistake all t he time). Ammo box ftw. You have to think and strategies or even a common, and pretty easy, mob can kill you.
The graphics are beautiful, music is very good, voice acting is perfect, very witty humor, and the cutscenes are usually hilarious.
Speaking of cutscenes, the story. I hear all the time, "the game has no story so it sucks!" this is wrong. there is a story, it is about the daily lives of the three hunters (mercenaries is a pretty good perspective) doing various jobs. Then I hear, "but it isn't an over arcing plot.", True, but then your over arching plot is in the background. There is a plot in sense of something shady going on, but that is in the backseat and developes really slowly until towards the end. This game isn't the cliche, teen hero wakes up late for his date with girlfriend who gets abducted every 3 min. looks at a soldier wrong and must now ban together with various nutjobs, freaks, and scantily dressed women to save the world and become the legendary heroes. Ignoring the actual gameplay mechanics, the story is pretty believable in the fantasy-to-reality sense(maintaining the understanding that obviously we don't have little gremlins running around).
Once again this is for the really hardcore RPG fan that loves challenges, I would say the game is difficult, but it isn't that bad. People make a big deal but if you sit back, think, and strategize every move it's pretty easy. And when all else fails, your machine gunner with ammo box will usually solve aka full charge shot plus ammo target is weak against, or if they're a real baddy armor piercing rounds.
If I had two complaint it would be the story is told in the 3rd person perspective, when I believe this game may be so much better if it was told in more of a first person narration, though that would be difficult since there is no one main character, the 3 party members are all equally important to the plot. Then again there is no narration so it really isn't an issue to the average, nay, even the avid gamers. The second would be that there is no good tutorial. They show you basic stuff, but all the things that will make the game easier, possible in some cases, you have to learn by actually playing. I'll do you all a service and tell you that when customizing guns when you select and item to place, you can move the gun on the grid with the right stick, you can only get the best customization this way for some guns. Don't pay too much credence to the hate, it's unwarranted in most cases because it is "too hard".
yes: I recommend this product
