The gameplay is unparalleled to today’s madden junk. If you want a real football sim this is your one and only Choice. NCAA 2009 won’t let you down

Rated 4 out of 5 by Shamus from Very very fun football game. This gets addicting when I play it. I know it's an older football game, but I love to play it when I'm looking for some fun. I really get into it. I love the graphics, great gameplay, excellent sound. Can't call yourself a sports game fan, let alone, a football game fan without this. I love it!

Controls are much the same as any other EA sports football game and give you excellent options for movement on both offense and defense. The AI is improved on defense, in large part due to EA separating man and zone coverage in the eyes of the AI. That improvement makes this version more realistic than prior versions. Don't expect to throw the ball deep on every play and have it work out for you. Unfortunately the new AI is not perfect. Difficulty settings do very little to actually make the game more difficult. Turn it up to "Heisman" and the only difference in the AI is that they pick off a few more passes. You can still run the same play over and over and they won't catch on. As someone said, "you can run slants all day." You really can. (Just watch the MLB doesn't pick you off...) There are several modes of game play to enjoy. The standard "Dynasty", "Legend" mode where you live a single player's career, and even a "Mascot" mode. Legend is a lot of fun, but mascot mode is just silly. Your team lines up with 11 players dressed as your team's mascot with 99 in all ratings. They can do silly stunts and are totally unstoppable. It's really just a waste, so stick to real football. This is a great game for college football fans. This is obviously a bit dated and the conferences will reflect the way they were a few years ago. So the Big XII still has 12 members! There are some hiccups, but it's nothing that will prevent you from enjoying the game. Considering the price, how can you go wrong?

Bearing in mind that the graphics are from 2008 (which means they aren't going to look exactly amazing) and the commentary is made by EA Sports (which automatically means that it's going to get repetitive), you cannot go wrong. Going back to graphics, they look fine. Even though here in the past few years graphic engines have just gone off, the one used in this one is not a hinderance to the experience by any stretch of the imagination. It looks fine. For there, its just gets better. The dynsasty mode is awesome, you having control of recruiting, schedules, and depth charts in the pre season, all the control you can expect in the regular season, and the abillity to try and retain players wanting to transfer, complete position changes, and sign those last key recruits in the offseason. It's great. Campus Legend mode is also really fun, you creating whatever player you want, playing through their high school playoffs, and based on your performance, having to choose through scholarship offers. Further on, you work your way up the depth chart in practice, start starting games, and begin your teams quest for a National Championship, and if you are successful enough, a Heisman trophy. Play Now and the mini games also work, and are a lot of fun. All in all, this game is worth a whole lot more than 5 bucks, and you will be making a worthy investment if you choose to take a chance.
