Another failure from Square Enix

Honestly, I should have known better than to get a game from Square Enix, because I know they aren't a great gaming company. Front Mission Evolved has the worst story I have ever seen, the story changes and contradicts itself, and everything about it is just plain wrong. The gameplay is annoying, all it is is run around at super high speeds, pick up your ammo and health refills, and hold all the triggers then proceed on with the game. There's this useless system called E.D.G.E which is honestly, useless throughout the entire game until the last boss fight, and if you die in said fight, you start over again, with NONE of the meter filled for the E.D.G.E system. The story is really cheesy, with the most un-creative characters ever come up with, and the decisions the characters make makes no sense what-so-ever, so basically it's nothing new from Square Enix. Honestly, they never should have made a mech game, and should have left it to companies who actually know what they're doing, i.e Mechwarrior, and Armored Core. Another thing that really ticked me off was the customization. The "campaign" gives you no freedom in the customization. At certain points, you MUST carry a said gun, or MUST have four legs, even when those four legs often get you killed. But of course, the AI never has to change their "Wanzer" (their mech) at all, because it's the AI, they can do whatever they want. Oh, and that's another thing. The AIs are horrendous. Square Enix has again, dropped the ball. They should have stopped after Final Fantasy VII because that is the only good game they have ever made.

Good if you like Mech third person shooters

I picked this up being a huge fan of the original series. I still wish it was a tactical game, but I can understand the desire to change the genre. And for that, its a good first entry. The graphics are good, particularly on the mechs, though the humans and buildings are kind of blah. Sound is the same, the mechs sound great, the explosions sound great and gunfire sounds like it should. But the Voice Actors run the gauntlet from awful to ok. Overall, the single player is a pretty good experience, but suffers a bit from a lack of polish. Could have used a bit more work, but it's a good ride, despite a rather crummy story. Multiplayer is a different story, with tremendous lag and a pretty small community. All in all, I would certainly say buy it if you are interested in the game, but don't expect tremendous replay value from the singleplayer, or even a strong multiplayer.

Well i am a sucker for mech games and this one really quenches my thirst. aside from the occasionally stacked multiplayer game and some guy camping a armor pack it's got everything i need to fulfill my robot war fantasy. Some times shooting people doesn't seem to do any damage which is a definite bug they need to fix, could just be latency issues. you don't get to customize your mech for online play the way you would like too until your earn it and rank up, which i admit initially i was a little annoyed that i got my calm mech with the pre-order but i couldn't even put a single weapon on it with out it going over weight, "i was like what?the?" can you say broken" but the after i got my rank up i realized they give you a backpack called "power" which seemed to help, but good luck getting to play with four weapons on the "calm" mech overall the game has been a blast i love it and i recommend for anyone that just loves blowing stuff up.

Good News!!!

i will start by saying this. don't knock it til you try it. i have seen nothing but down talk about this game since its initial upbringing. (its another Armored core, its another Chromehounds) no! its front mission evolved. the gameplay is alot more stable than any ther mech game ive played on 3rd gen systems. it has a very similar feel to mech assault which in my opinion was an awesome game. the storyline is good and is roughly anywhere from 12 to 15 hours depending on you settings and your strategy. yes i said strategy. theres alot more to this game than you think when it comes to strategy. you have to know your opponents, the maps, the type of weapons and armor to equip. the strategy elements are still there and well incorporated. just from a different aspect. however i will say this. online is fun but takes some getting used too. unfortunatley the devs didnt really think about the consequences of newbs vs pros. you will get thrown into a lot of games where you are the newest person. considering that japan had the game 2 weeks early which leases you at an unfair advantage until you start to level. but once you start to level you will climb the ranks faster and it will be easier to kill the higher level mechs i would recommend domination for doing this. all in all the game is great. and the customization is awesome!!! so dont listen to the people on the forums. pick it up and try it for yourself.
