I hadn't played any Final Fantasy games in a while (I have fond memories of FF1-FF3 way back when). I knew they were more reliant on cutscenes & storyline these days. But this one was still a big disappointment. It's basically like watching an animated movie, then you walk down a straight path with no exploration and fight a battle or two, then another movie scene. It doesn't feel like a game, certainly not an RPG, it feels more like a movie with some battles grafted onto it. There are no towns to explore, no open areas with choice of movement, no dungeon mazes. For equipment, you get 1 weapon and 1 defensive item, that's it -- and they're very linear (at some point you get a silver band to replace your copper band or whatever). The battle system starts off painfully simple then adds a bit of complexity by chapter 3, but overall it's not a very engaging game at all.
