A campy shooterSo much fun. Grab your favorite weapon and your favorite person and get to blowing up some bugs! Great game to play with your kids, about 8and up, girlfriend or anybody who hates or loves bugs. Big bugs. It’s a silly game in a lot of ways, not too deep, but not so silly that it’s childish. It’s campy for sure, a classic like old monster movies. You can play it in short bursts or do a marathon session. Either way it’s a great game to have some real laughs and some good clean bug killing fun. The graphics are good enough to hold its own against most shooters. The real thrill however, are voice overs and dialogue. So corny, so Japanese. So much going for it. A timeless classic that if you missed it before grab it while you can. I envy anyone who gets to play EDF for the first time. EDF, EDF!

Don't Like ItThis game is bad in my opinion. It has terrible sound, awful music, repetitive missions, no mission variety (it's just kill giant bugs and then you win), the worst vehicle controls, your guy looks ridiculous, only 7 achievements overall (6 for beating it on the different difficulties and 1 for getting all weapons), annoying teammates, and bad graphics. Most would disagree with me but it's true. I would not recommend this game to anyone.

Wonderful fun in a B-Movie kind of wayEDF 2017 is a fun-yet-flawed epic. The good news is that the flaws are of the sort that can be easily overlooked by many gamers, myself included. The basics: EDF 2017 is a 3rd-person shooter whose main gimmicks are: Fighting LOTS (and I mean LOTS) of aliens in the form of various insects and robots in very large levels while using a massive arsenal of varied and creative weapons. There are 50-something levels and 5 difficulty levels; playing higher difficulties will make defeated enemies drop more advanced weapons so even if you play through on Easy Mode, there is a strong incentive to play through on a higher difficulty in order to see what cool creative items of destruction you can acquire.
The graphics are...... somewhat questionable..... I'm not someone who requires good graphics to enjoy a game so this didn't bother me..... although I am aware of other people who are more graphics-oriented that similarly were able to overlook this flaw to see the diamond underneath Music and sound effects are OK.... the highlight is the EDF soldiers.... they call out funny and oftentimes stereotypical "Cheesy Action/War Movie One-Liners" during the action. Playing Co-op only adds to the enjoyment.... it also makes some of the more difficult missions a bit more do-able.
I'd recommend this game to anyone who enjoys good games in general. The fighting is fun and there is so much to collect, whether it be Armor (health) upgrades or one of the many, many MANY different weapons.... ranging from Shotguns with Horizontal or Vertical Spread-shot, Acid-Sprayers, Assault Rifles with ricocheting bullets, turrets, and guided or dumb-fire missiles (just to name a few). Loads of fun and tons of replay value as long as you're willing to deal with an unpolished game that doesn't exactly look like Killzone: Shadowfall or Crysis in terms of graphics..... there's a reason this game has developed such a cult-like following.

i love this game!!!i have had this for over 2 years. its the ONLY game that i refuse to return. ever. the simplicity of it is addicting. you go around killing giant ants, spiders, robots, gunships, spaceships, bug hills & nests, & finally the mothership. as you beat each level, you gather up weapons & armor. but, to get all the weapons, you have to play every difficulty, from easy to inferno. make no mistake, inferno is as hard as it sounds, but not impossible to beat. also, each difficulty you complete grants you a new weapon that you cant just pick up. you will want to beat the inferno difficulty to get the ULTIMATE weapon, the genocide gun! yes, it is as awesome as it sounds. another helpful trick is you can replay every level & gain as much armor as you want. of course, your stamina bar goes up to 9999, but technically your armor does not stop there. i am currently @ 132,000 + & counting. the higher your stamina, the longer you live. the graphics aint bad, but nothing to shout about. same with the sound. its a good way to pass the time & learn better strategies in killing bugs. if you like running around causing madd destruction, i recommend this game.

Best when played with a friend. From a first impression, this game doesn't seem like a big deal. Dated graphics, stiff controls, and major repetition in the levels. But do not let that keep you from playing this game; especially if you have someone to play with.
My brother and I spent an entire weekend playing this game, and it was a blast. Shooting at giant bugs, large mechs, and even a monster or two straight out of a Godzilla movie can get downright dull when playing solo. But add a family member or a best friend, and you're guaranteed to have a fun time trying out all the different weapons and conquering all 50 levels.
The only major complaint I have is the lack of online co-op, but the next title in the series (Insect Armageddon) will have it included, so you can blast away the baddies with anyone. EDF 2017 is an enjoyable game that won't burn a hole in your wallet.

Amazingly AddictiveMy buddy and I usually play a game for an hour or two (Co-Op), enjoy it, but then tend to switch games or watch a movie because that one game had no lasting appeal. I assure you that this game is different. We started at 9pm and finished playing at 4am, and we still aren't done with the game. The game shows a clock at how long you played and we ended at about 6hours and 30mins. This game is really addictive and as a great split screen feature. The story gameplay can seem a bit redundant, but it is a game that sucks you in because of how out numbered you are. Just a great, fun, game to play with a friend or alone.
