Call of Juarez came out with no advertising or any type of push which is a shame because the wild west is an area that is very neglected in the realm of videogames. The only other western to grace the 360 was GUN (a great game, if you haven't played it, check it out immediately), and now we have the fantastic Call of Juarez. The thing that really hooked me was the story. It's about a man named Billy Candle who goes to visit his mother and stepfather but once he gets there he sees that they have been murdered, while at the same time his stepfather's brother (your uncle) Reverend Ray McCall, upon hearing the death of his brother and sister in law, gets to the scene and sees them dead, notices his nephew, and thinks that it was Billy who murdered them. From there the chase is on as Reverend Ray goes after Billy. What's really cool is the fact that you play with both Billy and Ray and experience the story from both perspectives as hunter and hunted. Billy's levels are more stealth than straight up shooting (though you do your fair amount of shooting if need be) and Ray's levels are ALL about shooting anyone that gets in your way. I have to say that Reverend Ray is a real badass and the best thing about COJ. I mean the guy's a preacher and a man of God yet he starts to kill anyone and anybody in his way because he feels it is "God's doing" all while trying to get to and kill his nephew. Pretty sick. Billy on the other hand is a punk. He can only take a certain amount of hits before dying and his levels aren't as fun as Ray's. They're not terrible, but not great. Graphics are all around great while the landscapes, mountains, etc really give it that "western" feel and atmosphere. Controls kind of take a little while to get used to though nothing that's a major pain, and the music, voice acting, and sound effects are all effectively done and once again add to the overall atmosphere. Give this game a shot if you're craving some solid FPS action. The fact that it doesn't take place during a war (a MUCH needed change of pace), but takes place during the wild west days (HUGE bonus points for that), and the fact that it tells a very solid story make Call of Juarez a game that's definitely worth your time and attention and a great addition to your 360 library.
