Product Description

The game is a combination of a tactical game and a sports game The basics are extremely simple: two teams, one ball. The team that carries the ball into the opponent's end zone scores a touchdown, the team with the most touchdowns at the end of the game is the winner. However, it's how you decide to do this that makes things interesting, the ends justify the means! It's not just the players you have at your disposal either. You can bribe the referee's to look the other way as you cripple or trample annoying opponents and hire illegal wizards to give you a hand directly from the crowd… Blood Bowl severely tests the finest tacticians' strategies There are many races to accommodate every player's profile and even more strategies for experimenting. Winning a game requires a strong game-sense and a lot of self-control. For the player's enjoyment, omnipresent humor and the use of spells, weapons, and other non-regulatory means place Blood Bowl outside of the classic sport simulation genre.

Excellent for what it was designed for

Anyone who gave a bad review do not know about Games Workshop or what this game was actually designed as. It is designed after the table top turn based game by games workshop..This is not a typical football game like Madden. It is turn based as opposed to continuous play. This is a great game to play if you are used to the old vibro football games or even if you and your friends have played the table top version before. This game has given me hour of fun for a VERY cheap price. If you had played the classic table top game the rules are exactly the same! This is a great game to play against friends or just do the campaign. There is a live version I have not checked out yet but hope to see it soon. Again fun game if you like turn based games..not fun if you do not understand turn based games lol

This game is a good attempt at making the original table top game into a console game. The interface is not bad but pretty much this game is Warhammer meets football. Most Madden fans might not like it since it is turn based football The controls are a little something to get used to and the graphics are not top rate but the are better than expected and it is well worth the buy. Also keep in mind that I usually don't buy sports game because of the simple fact that most of the time it takes no real skill to play sports games and that does not seem like a good thing to waste my time with them. This game actually takes a little skill and is not something that you can just jump into and win right off the bat which is one of the biggest problems with the madden games. So if you want a challenging but fun and great game then buy blood bowl.

This game is the worest game I have ever bought. Do not buy this game you will regret buying this game. I stuck it in my console and boy this game was dreadful. I thought it would be a cool game and it turned out to be a game that should have never been made to play. How can they even say this game was a football game. This game will go down as the worst game of 2010 hands down a 5 year old could have made this game better than what they did on this game. The controls on this game along with the poor excuse of a football game will make any one avoid this game. All Pro football was a way better game than this game was. Its to bad that they didnt make this game like Arena Bowl for the sega gennis. the hockey game and football game on that system was great. To bad they didnt use that on this game.

Blood Bowl - from the table-top to the console!
zhukov1943

The 360 version of Blood Bowl is the console version of the popular table-top football game published by Games Workshop. It's been around as a miniatures table-top game for almost twenty years, and is currently maintained as a "specialist game" by Games Workshop with a free downloadable rulebook available online. This console version of Blood Bowl offers the same experience as the table-top version, plus a real-time version that can be played on-line against opponents on X-Box Live. Note that the real-time version is NOT an arcade football game like Madden or NFL Blitz - it's simply a real-time version of the same table-top mechanics, with "freeze time" available to issue orders to your players. For those unfamiliar with Blood Bowl, it's "fantasy football" in a very Tolkeinesque way - teams of Humans, Orks, Dwarves, Wood Elves, Goblins, Lizardmen, the rat-like Skaven and the mutated forces of Chaos beating the hoo-ey out of each other on a fooball field. Rules are vaguely similar to American "gridiron" football, with throwers, catchers, blitzers and "big guys" who are massively powerful and equally stupid - there's a chance that when you need them to do something, they'll just stand around drooling! Teams are bought from an initial pool of 1,000,000 gold - they end up going QUICKLY! Any spare gold can be used to buy handy things like an apothecary to treat your players, cheerleaders to psyche up the fans, or most crucially - extra re-rolls. Gameplay is an innovative "turnover" system where players move, block, try to pick up and throw or catch the ball, or foul players lying on the turf. One team has a set period of time to make their moves with one player after another - the catch is that if they fail at a roll with one player (say on a block, or catch, or a "go for it" roll to move further than normal) then a "turnover" is declared and that team's turn is over. "re-rolls" can be bought to allow a single re-roll of a failed try, so they're VERY important! The rules convert well to the 360 interface - pick the player, make their move, and it checks the rules and rolls the dice for you. The graphics are nothing to get too excited about, but they're nice enough (some of the animations are particularly good!), and they really get the spirit of the wild, goofy Blood Bowl material across quite well! There's one-off matches and a campaign where you move your team around, playing matches, earning gold and experience and preparing your team for greater and greater tournament challenges! In closing, this version of Blood Bowl is a "must buy" for anyone who played and enjoyed the table-top game. Those unfamiliar with the original version can still have a great time with this fast-paced fantasy sports strategy game if they're willing to accept the tongue-in-cheek fantasy background that Blood Bowl unabashedly embraces.
