I’ve been playing this game since it came out. I bought a sega genesis strictly for this game when I was younger. It is so addicting. No matter how much older I get and how many different games I play I always come back to Shadowrun. It was done brilliantly. True to the pen and paper version too. I know a lot of people comment on the SNES version. They’re two totally and completely different games. The SNES version has nothing on the Sega version. If you’re a die hard cyberpunk fan you HAVE to try this game. Hands down my second favorite game of all time (followed by the original EverQuest).
I played the SNES shadowrun game and found it was addicting back in the 1990s and loved the game play but to flip the coin and play the Genesis version was truly a unique experience to say the least. The Genesis version is the truest version to the actual book game. The Genesis version has a unusual hacking game in itself that makes the game appear as two games in one. The cut scenes as you continue throughout the main mission is never shown by the SNES version. I understand why their are less than half genesis versions available on the market compared to the SNES now. After playing both better game play and sound is a definate. If you have not ever played the Genesis version of shadowrun you are missing out big time and I suggest you try this rare game and decide yourself, you won't be disappointed.
I started playing Shadowrun on SNES back in 1995 and played it all the way until the end satisfied with the gameplay, I never knew the Genesis version was even out there, little alone it was completely different. About a year ago I thought it would be fun to try when I found out and bought a Genesis and Shadowrun for it. This game is unreal with te story and gameplay and I missed out big time. The Genesis version has some great storyline sequence and the Cyber Hacking login puts the SNES to shame compared. The real time combat is a major plus but overall the addicting gameplay of this version compared to the SNES makes it hard to put down the controller once the storyline has started, I would rate the Genesis by far the most addicting and best version of Shadowrun I have played for older systems. I will not even talk about the FPS XBOX 360 version which could have been scrapped before its release.
