Product Description

Taking place on the same continent as the fan favorite Trails in the Sky offshoot of Nihon Falcom's storied The Legend of Heroes franchise, Trails of Cold Steel (Sen no Kiseki in Japanese) is the first in the series to tread Erebonian soil and explore the inner political conflicts of this oft-mentioned powerhouse nation in detail. With a standalone story that also delves into the expansive lore that has become synonymous with the series, players can enjoy school life and bond with fellow students to earn new abilities in battle, take advantage of speedy, tactical turn-based combat with the newly-developed “ARCUS” system, and uncover dramatic events that stand to change everything these two opposing social classes stand for.

I have really been enjoying playing JRPGs as of late and I only wish that I had started playing them when I was younger. This, like many games in the genre, takes a bit to get used to for me, but it is well worth it when it all clicks. Pretty graphics, decent story and fun combat make this a worthy purchase.

This is a great game for both causal and hardcore enthusiasts. The graphics are similar to the great jrpgs/rpgs of the Playstation 2 era. There is LOADS of content in this game and a very heavy focus on story and world/character building. There is a lot to read here but there is also plenty of game play. This has a very Persona 3/4 feel to it but it is NOT a clone. The social aspect seems very Persona-like while the combat linking feels more like Fire Emblem Awakening. The story is great, the characters start off as typical anime tropes but stick around and they really open up. The combat is satisfying but not too difficult. Easy+normal for story enthusiasts, hard if you like a challenge and hardcore if you are good at these kind of games. The game is massive and while not fully open world there are large areas you can run around in and explore, talking to NPCs or doing side quests including hidden side quests you really need to look for. There is a New Game+ which is great because you are going to want to replay it to focus on different social links/people in combat. You can't get all the trophies without some replays. Overall the game is really fun. It's not a super easy or super hard jrpg. You don't need to play the other games in the series to understand what's going on. You can read about the lore/history in-game such as in the library. It's the little details that really stand out but you can see that for yourself.

This is my 1st Legend of Heroes game but it did not effect the game or story for me at all . The story is very good and I can't wait for the 2nd one to come out this year. I liked how the turn based combat worked and it was very similar to the old JRPG days of PS 2 for me as well , like others have posted. The graphics were great and it played very well on the Vita. It is also PSTV combatible which is always a nice plus. Controls are easy to learn and not difficult to do during combat. Be prepared to spend some time on this game , especially if you are going for all the trophies. It will take more than 1 x through to get everything but the game is enjoyable enough that is not an issue .

First of all this review is coming from a Trails in the Sky lover, I will be comparing both series in a way becuz they both are very similar to how the story is divided(you'll understand if you had played Trails in the Sky, this part one of Trails of Cold Steel is similar to Trails in the Sky event wise, not plot wise). If you had played Trails in the Sky FC, trails of Cold Steel is really similar to the first chapter of Trails in the Sky. Trail of Cold Steel takes place about 2 years after the events of Trails in the Sky in a different country(you will recognize some characters along the way). The plot of Trail of Cold Steel is really slow, REALLY SLOW, this whole part one of the game is a solid introduction to characters and their background and the starting point of the real plot and where it may be heading. What this part only lacked was plot, but I'm pretty sure part II of the game will have more of the plot when it becomes local to the west. We start off the game with our MC Rean and his high school life in a military school. Yes we get to enjoy a bit of high school life in this game. Trails of Cold Steel had some pretty good feature such as the High School life, I personally enjoied it quite a bit, but what really sucked was events that happens along the way were all repetitive, witch killed my enjoyment a bit, you pretty much knew what was coming, there was not really any surprising element to the plot(until the final chapter). Sub vs Ddb, a lot of anime fans in general truly would prefer Sub, as of me I'm an anime lover and I pick sub over dub, but....what can I say about this dub? it's really great, as a sub lover I believe this dub deserves some points, it's not a half hearted voice acting. The artwork has it's improvement, it doesn't take much to make me like the artwork of a game. Overall Trails of Cold Steel was really good for it's part I, the main things that were just lacking was plot, and the adventure we got from Trails in the Sky. I would recommend this to any RPG fans, not JRPG fans, but ANY RPG fans. It's just that the wait for part II is gonna be a killer.
