Product Description

Nearly two centuries ago, humanity advanced into space, ushering in the dawn of a new era—the Space Era. But mankind's technological progress came to a near-halt after the devastation and turmoil caused by two meteors that struck the Earth in the early years of the 21st century. In 179 S.E., a third meteor, Meteor 3, landed near the Marquesas Islands in the South Pacific. A research team dispatched by the Earth Federal Government discovered that the meteor contained technology previously unknown to man. An investigative committee was formed to analyze Meteor 3 and the technology within, which became known as Extra-Over Technology.

A classic turn-based strategy
In this turn based strategy you get to choose between two characters, Ryusei or Kyosuke, which if you choose Ryu, it will play out as seen in the Anime series Super Robot Wars Divine Wars, while Kyosuke follows a slightly different path in the story. At the start of each mission, you get a final chance to load out your PTs (personal trooper AKA mechs), assign any skill points or upgrade your weapons, then you deploy your team. Combat in this game can get very tactical, especially the more you progress. Some enemies can't retaliate if you move right up next to them and others can be attacked more easily from long range, so you have to pay attention to how close you are to get the best hit percent on your weapons but have a good chance to dodge enemy attacks. Other tactics include counter attacks, which means if you target an enemy and after your attack if they're still alive and in range, they have a chance to hit you back, but likewise you can do the same when its the AI turn or choose to evade or guard against the attack. There are also support skills called spirits which can do many things such as increase evasion and hit rate as well as healing allies or providing a guarantee on evading an attack for a single fight, but you have to be careful with them because it is very easy to deplete your spirit point pool for each character fast if you use them frequently. Some PTs and enemies have innate abilities which have a chance of triggering during a fight when that unit is defending, such as your carrier ship can put up an energy field which greatly reduces damage from the attack. The characters are nicely developed and have their own personalities, such as Giado who says everything in Jamaican. Each character also gets their own theme music which plays each time they make an attack or are attacked and in combat, some weapons trigger a short anime sequence which can include a more detailed picture of the pilot or mech. Controls and interface are decent and fairly easy to pick up and understand. Sound is good as well as the music if you don't mind hearing the same songs over and over. The dialog is good, often fun to read and while the story is a little weird, its pretty good too. Graphics are great especially the attack sequences. Overall a great game for the GBA for fans of tactical turn based strategy, mechs and anime.
