This game is a forgotten classic, and is definitely the most underrated game on the GBA. I don't know why this happened specifically to Mario vs. Donkey Kong, but its a shame because it could have become a very popular franchise (there was at least a sequel on the DS.) The first thing that you'll notice when you play this game is the graphics - they are easily the best on the GBA, and they look almost as good as the games on the PSP. Another thing you'll notice about the game are the controls - they are pitch perfect and I have yet to find one flaw in them. Aside from these two aspects, the game is just as good as any other handheld Mario adventure. The button setup is complicated, but easy to pick up on. The story and the sounds are typical, but interesting nonetheless. Plus, this has to be one of the hardest games to power on the GBA, with the awesome graphics and relatively long story mode. One thing about the game is that it is hard, almost too hard for its own good. Challenging gameplay is par for the course of Donkey Kong games, but its so frustrating that it may make you put down the game for a long time. Difficulty aside, Mario vs. Donkey Kong is one of the best games made for the GBA, and if you don't own it, I sincerely recommend it.
