Ever Forward is an adventure puzzle game following the story of a girl named Maya. Maya is lost in a strange world somewhere between reality and imagination. She is alone to confront her despair on her journey of discovery, where she must unlock her memories and confront her fears to unravel the secrets of the world. Players will need to use their observational skills and intelligence to solve multiple puzzles to piece together the mystery of Maya’s past and what dark secrets she has buried. A beautiful world that comes to life through breathtaking graphics, Ever Forward is coming to Switch from Pathea Games, the studio that brought us My Time at Portia.

I enjoy the game. Not such a big fan of finding out the copy I’m buying is the last “new” copy so it’s open. Normally that would be ok, if it wasn’t for the instructions being damaged.

The game is very pretty and the world is enjoyable. I liked the gameplay and puzzles, although some puzzles were extremely shallow. The reason I don’t recommend this product and rate it so low is because of the Switch version specifically. I bought it without looking at previous reviews and found that the game is poorly optimized, it’s choppy and frame rate can grind to a halt. This leads to issues with input delays/loss and makes for a poor experience. I bought it again for another system and I got to enjoy what the game could and should be. If you can get it for a different console/device I’d recommend it but can’t for the Switch.

The game moves at a snails pace and all the challenges are straightforward and lacking any real comprehensive thought. The only saving grace is that, even though it runs at a slower framerate, the game moves so slow by its own nature that you wouldn't notice it.

Follow up to previous review: Gamestop reached out and made the situation right. I was assured that the game itself was brand new, but being that it shipped from a Gamestop location, I likely received a copy that had been on display which explains the condition of the box. Nice of Gamestop customer service to make the effort to satisfy the customer. As for the game, Ive had a chance to play it and its very interesting and unconventional puzzle game. Its get a bit choppy when you are in the overworld and I think those issues come from the title being ported to the Switch.
