Megadimension Neptunia is a JRPG full of references to all sorts of games and media. The gameplay and story is great, but the dialogue has to be the best part about it. Highly recommended if you’re a fan of JRPGs and anime.

Megadimension Neptunia VII is a game that I really enjoyed playing through. Idea Factory has JRPG mechanics down to a science and it really shows throughout the course of the game. Before I get into the review I'd like to mention that this was my first entry into the series and that while playing it I got vibes that were similar from when I played Chrono Trigger and other JRPG classics like the Final Fantasy 4-9 or Tales of ____ series. ---------Game play ------- The overall game play of Megadimension Neptunia VII is turn-based and revolves around a constantly changing cast of characters depending on what segment of the story your're on. There are tons of different mechanics that come into play like HDD transformations and the coupling system that I enjoyed messing around with in order to maximize the amount of damage that my characters put out however the difficulty never really reached a point where it felt like I absolutely needed to use everything included in the battle system. More or less, there weren't many parts in the main story that required tedious level grinding but I ended up doing it anyway because I enjoyed the process of doing so, which speaks to the quality of the game play and how well all of the elements within the story came together. --------Story ------ The main story itself is fairly lighthearted and broken up into 3 main parts that come together in the final segment of the game. I won't really explain much about the story since I don't want to spoil anything however the main premise takes place in a world called Gamindustri within the Hyperdimension and all of the main characters represent different video game console brands, which I found hilarious. (The main 4 characters are Noire - Lastation - Playstation, Blanc - Lowee - Wii, Vert - Leanbox, Xbox and Neptune). That being said the writing of the story and dialogue between characters was cleverly done and it complemented the game nicely, despite being cheesy at times. -----------Graphics and Audio ---------- The graphics in Megadimension Neptunia VII were nicely done. The effort that Idea Factory put into making the game look and sound good really showed during cut scenes and different opening sequences. There weren't any noticeable drops in frame rate during gameplay and the audio throughout the game supported the context of the story. The only con that I would have to list is that there were scenes with fanservice, which some people might not be ok with. That being said, it REALLY shouldn't be a surprise to anyone seeing as there are girls with bright purple hair all over the cover. ---------Summary ------- I really enjoyed Megadimension Neptunia VII and regret buying it used from Gamestop. I'd rather spend the extra $15 and buy a new copy in order to support Idea Factory so that they release more entries in the US. A final note would be that it took me roughly 25 hours to finish the game, which is about normal for this type of game and that I would definitely recommend this to a friend.
