Q: Can this game be played without playing any of the other Tales games?

Soroxasheart 11 months ago
Best Answer :

Yes. None of the Tales games connect unless it's a direct sequel like Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World or Tales of Xillia and Tales of Xillia 2. All of the Tales games have similar items in each game like gels for healing, life bottles for reviving, herbs for permanent stat boosts, ect.. but as far as story, characters and world building they are all separate. Like Final Fantasy games.

Fun Story, Poor Combat

As my first experiences in the Tales series, I can see why it is long-running and popular. The characters are great and the story is well written. There is plenty to do and ample game time to be had (basic run-through should net you ~40hrs without doing extras). My only complaint is the over-complicated and fairly janky combat system. It feels like it was designed for turn-based and forced into live action. This could have been one of my favorite games had it been turn-based.

I've played quite a few Tales games and this is pretty good. Solid entry, but nothing spectacular compared to others in the franchise.

I've only played a few hours so far but it seems like a solid game. The one downfall of this game is its over excessive dialogue content..can become a bit boring getting through c.s..good overall game though.

If you missed this game the first time it came out, it was probably because it was an Xbox 360 exclusive in a Playstation-heavy series. The re-release does the original game justice, it doesn't feel like an incredibly old game, and it's a lot of fun to play. The gameplay is a little rough, especially compared to newer titles like Berseria or even Xillia, but if you keep in mind that this game was originally released allll the way back before Graces, it's still highly playable and an excellent chance to fill a hole in any dedicated Tales collection

Fun with the family

We started plating Tales games as a family when my boys where around 7 and 11. They are now 17 and 21 and dor some reason only just now getting around to this one. We like the game overall but it is heavy on dialogue. So be prepared for times where you are just sitting and listening for a while. The mage characters are just too slow IMO so far and you may have more fun using melee move sets. Just needs a little more action!

One of my favorite games in the Tales of series. It has a great storyline, fun characters and very fun gameplay. It has definitely aged, but doesnt feel like it has gotten stale, just gotten older.
