Where do I begin with a game as great as this?? Honestly, this is a fantastic entry in the Transformers series in general, especially the games. It takes a point in time crucial to the war on Cybertron and fleshes it out in a magnificent way. The characters have revamped designs, and their personalities are developed in a way that adds to their original characterizations. The backgrounds are absolute eye candy. I sometimes will get really sucked into looking at the environment between fights, and there are a few small details that really make the backgrounds come to life. The fighting system is fairly simple, and I'm glad the game doesn't force you into a tutorial. (That's a pet peeve of mine; I grew up playing games where you had to figure the buttons out for yourself, so I feel annoyed when games are like "Hey, push this button! :V" ) Mostly, you wind up shooting things, but you can melee enemies, if they are close enough. So if shooters aren't your aesthetic, this may not be the game for you. It was nice to see some less popular characters become playable for the main storyline, such as Breakdown. I've yet to play multiplayer, as I'm still beating the main storyline, so I don't have a whole lot to say about that. (You can play multiplayer whenever you want; I just like to focus on one thing at a time without distractions, so I play story mode alone.) I do think it's a neat concept to be able to play story mode with other people online. My only quarrel with multiplayer though, is that they don't offer support for two players using the same console. This might be a little off-putting to some. Another thing that may cause some annoyance for others is the lengthy loading process for playing the game for the first time. I estimate the first time loading took about 30 minutes. (Time enough to make a sandwich and question why this game needs to load for so hecking long.) As for understanding the storyline of the game, I do recommend that you have some sort of knowledge of the Transformers universe, but you don't have to be an obsessed nerd (like me) to understand everything. I wager that if you have good comprehension skills, you'll get the jist of things. Well, I've rambled enough. At the very least, you should give this game a try! If you enjoy it, there's a sequal, but that's for a different review, at a different time.
yes: I recommend this product
