Cinematic cut-scenes: The cinematic cut-scenes were absolutely phenomenal. I felt like I was watching an 8-hour Naruto Shippuden movie. The raw emotions within each scene was very impactful and very moving. In certain scenes particularly, I literally balled up and cried. This game really depicts Naruto as an embodiment of hope for those around him, and I will follow in his ninja way.
Fight mechanics: The introduction of the substitution bar was a bit strange to adjust to at first, but the mechanics grew on me. However, I honestly still preferred having no substitution bars like Storm 1 and Storm 2, but I get why they introduced it. And yes, the introduction of substitution bars changed the entire dynamic of fights compared to the previous installments.
Gameplay: I enjoyed the concept of playing as different characters, just like in previous games. However, the only part where I did not like was *spoilers* when you play as Sasuke when he's on a killing-spree. However, the focus immediately shifts back to our heroes, so I'm OK with that.
Free-roam: One of the biggest reason why I loved Storm 2 was because Storm 2 gave me the freedom to go to different places in between missions - I get to interact with Gaara in the Sand Village, look for cursed dolls, collect materials for ninja tools, and most importantly, just helping others, performing day-to-day ninja tasks, and interacting with my ninja friends. Storm 2 is such a classic because it made me FEEL like I'm Naruto Uzumaki, To my disappointment, I was not able to roam around different kingdoms freely until the very end of the story mode, which was a bit disappointing. Furthermore, the side quests just seemed a bit uninteresting - there wasn't a lot of people to help out, and I don't have the freedom to go back to Konoha whenever I wished. In summary, I'm disappointed that I didn't get to FEEL like Naruto, but merely watching him through the cutscenes. Hence, for this reason, I'm deducting a star and giving this a rating of 9/10.
However, the main story is so amazing that I'm willing to accept this game for what it is - a touching, tear-jerking, intense, action-packed Anime movie about a prophesied hero named Naruto Uzumaki lasting around 8 hours long.
Bottom line, it is worth it. I enjoyed the game, and I hope you do too. 9/10 stars.
