Years after it was first released, Far Cry 2 is still stunning. It's still really, really big. To begin, the game has a long and good storyline, about you, trying to kill the weapon lord Jackel and eventually, escape the war torn land. Along the way you use two different factions to get closer to your eventual target. Most of the missions involve assassinating someone, destroying a compound, rescuing a buddy, or causing general, widespread havoc. Most of the missions can be altered by listening to the advice of one of your buddies, people whom you meet and work with during the game. They often call you before the mission starts and ask for you to do another secondary objective. Missions can be played out in several ways. You can go in guns blazing, snipe, use mortars, or go in stealthily. There are also some side quests to do that unlock guns, give you safe houses where you can rest, or give you currency for downing a target. The environment is still the most impressive part of the game. You can use it to your advantage by taking the high ground in a fight, or setting off a fire bomb and causing a wildfire. The day-night cycles and large deserts and forests are impressive. The graphics are just okay by today's standards, but still playable. The only real disappointment is having to drive miles upon miles to a target (and along the way be chased and shot at by the enemy), as there is no fast travel system. At this point there also isn't much of a multiplayer. However, it is still fun to mess around by creating your own maps from scratch (sort of like Forge Mode in Halo). Even after all these years, Far Cry 2 is still an excellent, open world RPG with tons to do.
