For those who are fans of the GTA series, it's common knowledge that this third installment, set in the bleak location of Liberty City, astonished gamers as they were immersed in a three-dimensional world filled with compelling, free-roam gameplay. It grabbed the attention of everyone back in 2001 and perpetually rocket launched the rest of series with following installments that improved upon the initial setup of GTA III. The first thing that makes this game stand out is its location; the dark and grimy streets of Liberty City mimic New York City, perhaps taking it to an extreme extent in terms of relaying darkness, violence, and crime through prime examples of making buildings look run-down and having the homeless, poor, and cheaply-clad "working" women frequent the crowd of citizens you pass by. This bleak scenery, which is not as apparent in perhaps Vice City and San Andreas, gives it a sort of rustic charm and plays on the realism of violence in the Mafia-ridden setting. To me, it kind of compares to the grim take on Gotham City that we see in Batman: The Animated Series, which is carried on into its branching line of games including Arkham City, another game notable for its dark tones and overall feel and appearance. While we're on appearance, however, the graphic and sound quality of the game may not astonish you, but keep in mind this game is over a DECADE old. In '01, we'd have given the quality a 10/10. It just pales in comparison now to the advanced quality in graphics we see today. Gameplay, on the other hand, will keep you interested. The missions start off easy like any other game, but soon become increasingly difficult and prove a challenge any gamer will take. The violence that plagues the missions defines the game and fails to bore (you weirdly won't find any repetitiveness in the hundreds of murders you commit throughout the game). Cut-scenes are done remarkably well for their time and are often interesting/humorous; the cast of the game actually includes a few recognizable voices in terms of actors as well. The radio feature also links the player to over 3 hours of music as well as the funny K-Chat station and ludicrous commercials that run between songs on other stations. I would recommend this game easily to anyone, and those tempted to buy the PC version should know it's just as playable and addictive on your computer as it is the PS2.

The game was made in 2001! its very good game if we went back to the year 2001 and took every game from 2002 then on away!!!!!!!!!!!!
