Product Description

GameStop is excited to bring you Metroid Dread on Nintendo Switch! Experience the ultimate cosmic space adventure and take on alien lifeforms in this action-adventure video game. Release date 10/8/2021.

Join intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran in her first new 2D Metroid story in 19 years
Samus’ story continues after the events of the Metroid™ Fusion game when she descends upon planet ZDR to investigate a mysterious transmission sent to the Galactic Federation. After a harrowing encounter with a living Chozo—a race previously thought to be extinct—she ends up deep below the surface of the planet. The remote world has become overrun by vicious alien lifeforms and chilling mechanical menaces. Samus is more agile and capable than ever, but can she overcome the inhuman threats stalking the depths of ZDR?

Face off against unrelenting E.M.M.I. robots
Once DNA-extracting research machines, the imposing E.M.M.I. are now hunting Samus. Tensions are high as you evade these E.M.M.I. to avoid a cruel death while finding a way to take them down. Find out what turned these robotic wonders into the scourge of ZDR and escape with your life.

Feel Samus’ power grow as you gain maneuvers and abilities
Parkour over obstacles, slide through tight spaces, counter enemies, and battle your way through a dangerous world. You’ll acquire new and familiar abilities as you traverse the many environments of ZDR. Blast multiple targets with the new Storm Missile or use the Speed Booster to dash and break through walls. Return to areas and use your new abilities to find upgrades, alternate paths, and a way forward. Explore the sprawling map, evade and destroy E.M.M.I. robots, and overcome the dread plaguing ZDR.

New modes let you ease into ZDR, experience true dread, or take on a boss gauntlet
If this is your first time sprinting and shooting as Samus, the new Rookie Mode increases health gained from items and decreases damage from bosses. Bounty Hunters looking for a true challenge can face the new Dread Mode, which can be unlocked if the Hard Mode is finished. Complete the game to unlock Boss Rush* and fight Samus’ most formidable foes one-after-another to try to get the best time possible!

A new Samus amiibo™ figure featuring her suit from Metroid Dread and an E.M.M.I. amiibo figure are available in a 2-pack set. Scan the Samus amiibo for an extra energy tank to increase your health by 100; additionally, the Samus amiibo can be tapped again to receive health once per day. The E.M.M.I. amiibo grants Samus a Missile Plus tank, increasing her missile capacity by 10; additionally, the E.M.M.I. amiibo can be tapped again to replenish some missiles once per day.

Metroid Dread Review - Worth it 9 Months Later?

I picked up Metroid Dread after waiting since last year, to play the game. I had played the 2D and 3D Metroid games over the years, but don’t consider myself to be a fan. The free demo on the Switch Eshop interested me quite a bit though. And now that many online have already played the game, and gushed over it, is it as good as people say? Yes. Mostly. Metroid Dread is a faithful recreation of the 2D games of old. It has a modern look and feel, but will remind you of Super Metroid (SNES). The game also has influences from the Prime games (Gamecube/Wii), in its art direction and graphics. This is a worthy, new Metroid entry to play. The controls are mostly tight, the gameplay is precise as expected, and the game has the classic Metroidvania process to it. You will spend time marking the map to come back later to fully explore, as you gain new abilities and upgrades to push forward. This game has you stalked by an enemy called an E.M.M.I. To not ruin the experience, all I will say, is that your speed and accuracy will be tested at times! The story is light but serviceable (with a recap at the start of the overall Metroid story), and is engaging enough to keep you playing. The boss fights are not too memorable overall, but are handled well. And the game’s graphics, sound, and presentation are all top notch. The Switch finally has a new killer exclusive game, in Metroid Dread. Highly recommend to fans of action adventure, platforming, and sci fi games/media.

Enjoy that it kept a lot of the old school elements. Challenging at times but still very playable. Glad I picked this one up as one of the first video games I played in a long time.
