Product Description

When you purchase the retail version of the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass/Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass you will receive a download code that you can redeem in Nintendo eShop for either the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass or the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass. Upon redeeming the code, you will be prompted to select one Expansion Pass. You can only redeem this code for one Expansion Pass, so please select the version that corresponds to the game you have.

Continue your Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield adventure in The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra, two new areas to explore that will be added to the Galar region as part of the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass or Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass! Each area offers a different adventure, where you'll be able to visit the far reaches of the Galar region and meet the people and Pokémon that live there. You'll also see some familiar Pokémon that didn't appear in the Galar region before, a total of over 200 Pokémon. If you buy the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass or Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass, you'll be able to enjoy both The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra as they're released!

The Isle of Armor

The first new adventure unlocked by the Expansion Pass will take place on the Isle of Armor, an island of the Galar region. Many Pokémon make this island their home, living freely amid the lush nature. The island is also home to a dojo for Pokémon battles. Players and their Pokémon will train hard to become stronger under Mustard, the master of this dojo.

The Crown Tundra

The second area unlocked by the Expansion Pass is the snow-swept realm of the Crown Tundra. In this frigid yet beautiful landscape—with its jagged winter mountains and shining, silvery landscape—people live in small communities where they support and rely on one another. A man named Peony will appoint the player as the leader of his exploration team in the Crown Tundra and task them with investigating the reaches of this frozen land. Players will also be able to explore the depths of the Pokémon Dens seen during Max Raid Battles. What’s more, it seems several previously unseen Legendary Pokémon make the Crown Tundra their home.

  • Continue your Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield adventure in The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra, two new areas to explore that will be added to the Galar region as part of the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass or Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass!
  • Part 1 - The Isle of Armor is releases June 17, 2020
  • Part 2 - The Crown Tundra is scheduled for release during the fall of 2020
  • Each area offers a different adventure, where you'll be able to visit the far reaches of the Galar region and meet the people and Pokémon that live there. You'll also see some familiar Pokémon that didn't appear in the Galar region before, a total of over 200 Pokémon.
  • If you buy the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass or Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass, you'll be able to enjoy both The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra as they're released!

Trainers who purchase either the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass or the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass soon after the launch of The Isle of Armor expansion (or players who have already prepurchased it) will be able to receive Leon’s cap and tights as an early-purchase in-game bonus. Players will be able to receive these items after the release of The Isle of Armor (by the end of June 2020) until 7:59 A.M. PDT on Monday, August 31, 2020.

  1. To receive the above items, you’ll need to open the X menu. From the X menu in your game, go to Mystery Gift, select Get a Mystery Gift, then select Get via Internet. The Mystery Gift menu option will appear in the X menu after you visit your first Pokémon Center in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. (This occurs after about an hour of gameplay. However, individual gameplay time may vary.) You can see the clothing items you’ve received by visiting an in-game boutique fitting room.
  2. An internet connection is required to receive the above items.
  3. A paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required to receive the above items.
  4. Those who purchased the Expansion Pass before the above items were revealed will still be able to receive these items after the release of The Isle of Armor.

If you purchase the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass or the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass, you'll receive two codes redeemable to get two special uniform sets of in-game apparel as a bonus.

The Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass is only compatible with the Pokémon Sword game and the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass is only compatible with the Pokémon Shield game. Please only choose the Expansion Pass for the full game that you own. If you own both the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games and want access to the Expansion Passes for both games, both the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass and the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass are required. Full version of the game is required to use DLC for that game; sold separately. Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately) and Nintendo Account required for online features. Not available in all countries. Internet access required for online features. Terms apply. Nintendo.com/switch-online

Q: If I bought the expansion pass can I use it for both copies of the games or will I have to buy the expansion pass two times?

Marcus98 9 months ago
Best Answer :

The expansion corresponds to the version of the game you bought, i.e you have to buy the sword expansion on sword and vice versa. But you can use it on multiple users on the same switch if you decide to restart on a second account

Q: I have Pokemon Sword. If I buy this expansion, which one do I receive? Will I choose which one I get?

Pokemon_Fan10 7 months ago
Best Answer :

If you have Sword, make sure you purchase the Sword expansion pass. You will get both Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra; the only thing you have to watch is that you buy the correct Expansion Pass for your base Sword game.

Q: Do we have to pick up the dlc at a gamestop store?

Logan1234 10 months ago
Best Answer :

You can purchase the DLC through the Nintendo E-Shop, or pick up a DLC card from where ever. As long as you have the code, you're fine. Purchasing the DLC AND the game bundled together isn't a bad idea either.

Sword/Shield Expansion appreciation

I bought this for my sons, who had been asking for it before it was even out. To put it simply: they loved it. If I thought they had been playing/talking about Pokemon a lot before.....not sure where they found the additional time to do it even more.

Gamefreak added some of the older generation Pokémon, but not all of them. The first Isle of Armor expansion was short, and fairly easy. However, the Crown Tundra expansion will take a bit of time to complete all missions. Overall, I highly recommend to anyone wanting to expand the main adventure.

This "expansion pass" is worth purchasing. It adds more places to explore and brings back some more pokemon from previous generations. The additional clothing and hair/makeup options are nice to have.

Perfect Expansion

These expansions are the perfect compliment to the base games. If you loved the Wild Area, then you'll love the expansions, too, as Crown Tundra and the Isle of Armor are effectively new sections of the Wild Area. The Dynamax Adventure feature alone is worth the price, which is essentially a dungeon crawl with Pokemon. The only criticism I have is that the partner AI in Dynamax Adventures is pretty awful, so you almost need to have online connectivity to get through some of the tougher caves.
