A Great Return to a Favorite Classic

I loved Disgaea back in the day, and all of it's fun and humor is intact in this remake. I picked it up as a nostalgia trip for myself, figuring my daughters wouldn't have much interest in a turn based JRPG, but I've barely gotten to play it because they have been playing so much.

Cool game , fighting reminds me of fire emblem . So if your a fan of that game you'll enjoy this for sure . Only bad thing and it's really not that bad , is the English dubbing of the voices kinda don't match the characters.

Pretty awesome port over to the Switch. The updated graphics and the extra little bits of content is amazing. Just wish they added something new to the Complete version. Other than that, it's amazing playing this game again on a new console.

I bought this game for the PSP a decade ago and its still as amazing as it was back then. The updated sprites and stages are really nice looking, and I'm hoping to see the other games in this style as well.

Just like I remember

I love the disgaea series and I remember playing this back on the ps2. I did play the psp version and this seems to be a port of that. If you've played any of the newer disgaea games, it's hard to recommend this one for anything other than the story. The newer games just have better qol. That being said, this one is simple and enjoyable. Being able to play at home or on the go is great.

Suberb shine on dated classic

I love the Disgaea series. I got into this entry about a year after its initial release on the PS2. Since then, the series has grown and evolved, bringing in new ideas and streamlining older ones. Unfortunately, all these improvements make the original title feel very dated. To be fair, nothing about this game doesn't work. It's a very solid foundation for an incredible series. Disgaea 1 Complete does an amazing job at taking your free time and destroying it. The game has so much depth that a player can drop dozens of hours into the game without even looking at the story. One example is the Item World, which gives EVERY SINGLE ITEM its own inner arena, which lets you exponentially increase the item's power and capabilities, among other things. You can do all that and more to truly make the experience your own. However, the series has come so far that going back to the first title almost feels like a chore. So many things like wealth distribution or experience gaining or movement options or character creation have all been streamlined to a degree that make this game really show its age. Even the Item World is implemented far better in newer Disgaea titles. None of it is bad or broken in any way; especially in how how well the humor holds up. It's just better to spend the extra $10 on Disgaea 5 Complete.

I’ve played Disgaea 5 on the switch so I was really happy that they rebooted the first game onto the Switch as well. I do not own any of the PlayStation consoles so I am not able to play any of the other games sadly. On the downside, moving from Disgaea 5 to 1, I am having troubles with the mechanics as I played the improved version (like the jump button or it’s easier to move in Disgaea 5)
