Product Description

Developed by Studio Saizensen, Blade Strangers is a hardcore old-school fighting game. The streamlined four button control scheme makes it easy for beginners to deal out damage from day one...but the intricate combos, counters and specials give tournament-caliber players plenty of opportunities for frame counting, chain construction and hit-box science.
  • Fighter roster includes characters from previous Studio Saizensen games (like Code of Princess and Sayonara Umihara Kawase), Nicalis games (like Cave Story+) and other surprise entrants
  • Each character has three alternate color settings and their own familiar “home” stage
  • Proprietary development system transforms 3-D models and animation into 2-D spritework; every frame looks like a gorgeous anime drawing
  • Online competition with minimum input lag
  • Accessible controls designed to bring fresh blood to the ranks of fighting-game fans worldwide

Great fighting game. This game has such an amazing soundtrack. Love that the roster is made up of the lesser known video game characters. Animation is fluid and the game is surprisingly complex.

Shovel knight in a fighting game

A good crossover fighting game. It is on the easy side in solo play and online multi player will be empty in a few months. Play if you wanted shovel knight in smash bros but will settle with this.

An alright fight

A fighting game crossover with various games published by Nicalis representing it. Its pretty standard fare as far as 2d fighters go, some are easier to handle than others (I mainly wanted to play as isaac) with some fun interactions in story mode and good control. It kind of feels bare bones though, and is on the whole unremarkable with a bunch of characters i didnt really care too much about. Still as a starting point and one of the few 2d fighters on switch, i do reccomend it

Fun, Goofy, Solid 2D Fighter

You could think of Blade Strangers as "Super Smash Others" -- a collection of lesser-known indie characters all thrown into a competent little 2D fighter. The story mode is silly nonsense but makes for some hilarious dialogue among the various fighters. The gameplay is approachable and versatile without being overly technical. The game skews toward the easy side, so veterans will want to bump up the difficulty level to max. My only complaint is the odd-looking, overly-pixelated edges and lines in the character "sprites" during fights. If you don't know who any of the characters are (and you should at LEAST recognize Shovel Knight), you may not get much out of this game. Otherwise, it's a fun and solid traditional fighting game.

A solid fighting game

This is a good buy if you like any of the featured characters, if you don’t it’s a pretty standard fighting with nothing too special to make it stand out. The story is bad but the characters are great!

Great game! Small roster...

I haven’t played many fighting games the pass few years so I kinda picked this game up at random to try something new out and I’m glad I did! I don’t have much to compare it to but the mechanics have been easy to learn but tough to master, I really enjoy the art style and the cast of characters are fun! But there lies the downside is the cast only amount, there’s not many to choose from but the ones there are are all there own. All in all a great game for a great price!

Casual's review: Fun game but short on characters
wecretiveselltodo

As a easy to learn but hard to master crossover fighting game, it does its job well and is fun and competitive. There is an online ranked mode, which is good because every modern fighting game should have one. However, 14 characters in a fighting game is simply not enough, especially for a crossover game. For example, if you're a Binding of Isaac fan, you may be a bit disappointed that there's only one character from the game, Isaac himself, like I was. The story mode has some small problems, but is still okay. The tutorial mode could be better, but as a fighting game any newcomer is going to have to look at external resources at one point anyways. Overall, you should buy this game if you want a more accessible fighting game that isn't as casual as smash, especially if you like code of princess, cave story, umihara kawase, striker gunvolt, shovel knight, or maybe anime in general.
