New Harry Potter Lego
rated 5.0 out of 5

The Developers have done it again. Lego Harry Potter is going to certainly be a hit for kids hitting the road on vacations with their parents! The game play is very smooth, it's challenging but not so much that it becomes frustrating. The overall length of the game is great also. Another very nice feature that you find with all Lego games is the ability to finish a mission and save. This give the player a chance to take frequent breaks from the game if they wish to do so. The graphics in terms of movies are very grainy, I do believe they could have been better, however you get the idea, if you have seen and read Harry Potter years 1-4 you will get the picture. Also the sound is quite muffled. It's almost as if it is too soft. Head phones are a must for this game as you will not hear important chimes when playing without them. Overall game rating for me personally 7.7 out of 10... Not perfect but a LOT of fun.

Great DS Game, Reminicent of Early HP Games
rated 5.0 out of 5

As a huge Harry Potter fan and a really big Lego game fan, I was very excited to see the lastest iteration of Lego's adventure merge with the Harry Potter universe. The Harry Potter universe is very rich with a lot to offer and the DS version of the game does a good job of using that environment to it's fullest. I was overjoyed to see that we actually get to start play on Privet Drive, before Harry knows he's a wizard! You meet Hagrid, you get to actively play a level in Diagon Alley, and on the Hogwarts express. They really listened to fans and took advantage of all the places fans of the Harry Potter world would like to interact with. I was very impressed all around with that aspect of the game. As far as how the game play goes, it is pretty easy to figure out, and fun to play. I've had a great time wandering around collecting studs and magic-ing things into place. The normal play you expect from any Lego related game. Fans of the Potter universe are somewhat familiar with that practice already since magic tends to involve lots of wand waving anyway. The development team did a good job trying to make it fresh and entertaining and not just the same thing you've come to expect though. I appreciated the fresh take on gameplay they seem to have for this game. Because the Harry Potter world deals in magic, some of the game play reminds me of the really early DS Potter games, and that's not a bad thing. The graphics on the DS aren't the most stellar, I actually think I found the Lego Batman game a little clearer than the Potter version. However, the new iteration is mixing real graphic backgrounds with the Lego aspects, instead of everything looking more cartoonish like it did in the Batman version. It's not a negative, again, the graphics kind of remind me of the really early HP games and I really loved playing those so it's a win/win for me. As far as glitches, there are a few, like there are with any piece of programming. One level I completed the task before I had spoken to the person asking me to do the task (Honeydukes in Hogsmeade level) and the story sort of got stuck, it wouldn't let me move on to the next task. So I exited the level and replayed it and it worked fine. Minor glitch, took me just a few minutes to get back to where I had gotten stuck. Everything else has gone very smoothly. All in all, it's a pretty polished game and I'm happy to see no major issues. Comparing this DS version to the Lego Harry Potter XBOX 360 version would be unfair I think. The Xbox version is just inredibly rich in details and game play that can not be reproduced in a DS type of game. I think the developers did an admiral job of tailoring this to be exactly what you want in a DS game. I was pleasantly surprised, like I was when I played both versions of Lego Batman, that the game is completely different on the DS than it is on the Xbox. If you are worried that you have one version and don't want to repeat the same exact game on the other version, you have nothing to be concerned about. The games not only are radically different, they have different levels. You don't get to play inside Privet Drive on the Xbox, but I do on the DS. Aside from being based in the same universe, they did an excellent job of developing each game to suit the specific platform. It was a delight to find that out. All around, I would defnitely recommend the DS version of Lego Harry Potter. It has been a fun game and especially fun to be able to take to work and play during my lunch break. Well worth the price and I am greatly looking forward to how they handle the next version that covers years 5 through 7.
