Why wouldn't you own this? This is a game that has gone over the heads of US gamers for years because of the steep learning curve, but it is one that (if given the chance) can become extremely addicting and rewarding. Endless replay value is not an exaggeration. The loss of experience and items with each death can seem intimidating, but it sets a tone of urgency and importance in every decision made within any given run. All of the game dynamics are fair, surprisingly intricate, and well balanced. However, you will have to be prepared to die and learn from your mistakes in order to conquer the increasingly difficult dungeons, and you can visibly see your skills grow the longer you play (which is not something that can be said for most RPGs that have you rinse, grind, repeat). Shiren has deep gameplay that will challenge your assumptions of gaming as well as your own personal ways of thinking, all while being wrapped in a more light hearted and satirical environment. There have been many reiterations of the mystery dungeon series (most recently Pokemon and and Etrian), but I have found that none of them strike the same balance as Shiren. At $2 for a used copy, you owe it to yourself to at least give this game a shot, and hopefully you'll find that it truly stood the test of time since 1995.

Really fun game, for a while anyway. It has a really good main adventure and there is all sorts of side quests to go on once you beat the main adventure (which doesn't take more than a couple of hours).
