Excellent time wasterBeen out of work past 5 months due to foot injuries, excellent way to keep my mind off of the pain.
This was the title that got me hooked on the Final Fantasy series, of course back then it was called Final Fantasy II for the US version of the SNES.

Challenging but worth the work. This game is pretty awesome. I played the game back when i was a mere lad and enjoyed it then, so when my english teacher challenged us with a video game project i decided to revisit this game. I fell in love with the game all over again, there are so many reoccuring themes that translate so well to the time frame that the game is played in. The most solid theme was that even the greatest of things can be the worst of things in the wrong hands. All of the elemental crystals are getting liberated by Golbez who just recently overthrew Baron. Cecil, your character, was the commander of the Red Wings which is the air fleet for Baron. Cecil is a dark knight for a chunk of the game but after a certain event that would be a spoiler he becomes a paladin. He must prevent the crystals from getting into the hands of Golbez but he isnt alone. Many great characters help you along the way, some also hinder you. I wouldnt recommend this game to someone who plans on breezing right by it because it is a rather hard game to finish, i cant count how many times my team died. All that frustration was worth it though because you get a good sense of satisfaction when you beat a boss that seems unbeatable. The book has some sad side stories with it to, Cecil has a girlfriend named Rosa that gets captured by Golbez. On top of that, two kid twins join your party at one point and end up sacrificing themselves to save you. yes this game is a tear jerker. I recommend this game to anyone with a pulse and free time, this is the only Final Fantasy game i have played so far but that will soon change. The format of the gameplay is pretty good too, each team member has a bar that charges up and when its full you can decide how to attack. Thats also why the game is really hard because you have to make quick decisions while enemies are attacking, but i like that because it keeps you on your toes and ive never played a game in that format. The one thing i dont like is how linear some of the characters are, when they level up you dont decide what gets stronger, the game generates it. plus you cant decide what moves to get, your character already has all of them. Other than that this game is one of my faves and everyone should give Final Fantasy a shot.
