As for the plot, you play as the heroic Storm who must put an end to an evil organisation called Rattlesnake. Of course, you get to do this with a range of heavy weaponry and Lexicon assures us there are plenty of different weapons and pick-ups - each with its own attack method and power. Yes Its a Metal Slug Clone...And An Extremely Good OneCommando Steel Disaster came out of NOWHERE. I never once read an article or seen it in a game magazine ad or anything. I had stopped into my local videogame store, saw it, took a chance and picked it up. I'm glad a followed my intuision cause Commando Steel Disaster is a very good action/shooter. Commando is quite litterally Metal Slug, only without the comedic tone. You play as a soldier named Storm who has to put a stop to (you guessed it) a tyrannical hellbent figure on ruling the world. The story is told at the beginning of each level through conversational text between you and a female communicator. Thats about the most "story" telling you'll get. Graphically it (once again) looks like Metal Slug, so you'll already know what to expect. The boss battles are very cool though. They take up a good portion of the DS screen and are very "pixely" animated. Think of famous developer Treasure style bosses and you'll get the right idea. Weapons are also pretty cool and have a nice varitey such as machine gun, missle launcher, grenade launcher, bullet seeker, and more. Controls are very simple. B to shoot, A to jump, Y for your grenades, and L to switch between weapons. Music unfortunately isnt good as it gets pretty repetitive, and the sound effects such as screaming soldiers, explosions, etc are good. Commando is a really good buy if your into the Metal Slug/Contra series. It's fun. If your looking for a good action/shooter and your done with Contra 4, you really cant go wrong with this out of nowhere title.

Fair EnoughFirst of all, this is a great game all in all. This is basically Metal Slug, except you can roll. There are some problems with the game, like how the levels are ridiculously long and challenging and there are no checkpoints, but other than that, it is a very great game if you are a Metal Slug fan! The plot is fair, so I won't spoil it for you. The animations are fantastic, with vivid enviroments and interesting enemies. The Boss Battles are really challenging though, so it might take quite awhile to get past the first level, which is the biggest problem of all. ANother great aspect is the fact that there are vehicles that you can use in certain levels to navigate, which was great fun! You cal also find plenty of weapons, like machine guns, cluster grenades, rockets, etc. You could probably get a good 3 hours out of this game, so I recomend it to Metal Slug fans.

Metal Slug without the Metal SlugThe title says it all. Its like the developers of Metal Slug left the company and decided to make this game outside under a new title because they couldn't use the Metal Slug name due to copyright issues. For all I know, that could be true, because this game feels like MS down to the artwork and hilarious screams. The only notable difference is that you start off with a machine gun instead of an annoying pistol. The controls feel exactly like metal slug with the floating-esque jump and only being able to shoot forward and up. You can run while shooting straight up. The knife is used close-up. You can however switch between your standard gun and your collected weapon to save rounds, which is something I always wished metal slug would do. You have grenades too... at least THEY look different. You start off on a snowmobile with arial enemies attacking you and the only way to shoot them down is to hit reverse and pop a wheelie so you can diagonally shoot them down while jumping over mines. After that you're on foot and the Metal Slug familiarity kicks in. So far I haven't been able to enter any vehicles but I'm only on the 2nd stage. Music and sounds are symphonic and well done, and the screams of fallen enemies are hilarious. Graphics have the cartoony exaggerated look that MS fans know and love. Challenge is RIGHT UP THERE with other MS games. If you've been looking for a DS Metal Slug fix, here it is until MS 7 comes out (the other screen is a useless map... haven't seen any touch features so far). If you just want a good side-scroller (and you think Contra 4 is hard?) This will definitely tide you over as well until something a little more beatable comes around. Solid action game that will keep you busy for a long time.
