In my opinion, this SSX entry steps up to the plate and delivers what fans of the series have liked from past games. SSX Blur is a game of becoming the best snowboarder you can possibly be, as you seamlessly perform drifts and jumps on a dangerous snowy mountain path on your snowboard or skis of preference. Presentation is very nice, with slick option and character selection screens. At first, the control is very much hard to get used to, requiring you to adjust to throwing up the Nunchuk controller whenever you want to jump, and then flicking the Wii remote in one of several directions to do a flip or turn. Couple these actions with up to two buttons to execute a specific grab, and you're in for a learning curve of upwards of an hour or more. Nevertheless, after you've squashed the easy earlier stages, which are perfect for allowing you time to get used to the controls, you'll have a blast racing and edging your way down the mountains of SSX Blur. You'll be faced with racing challenging foes, completing side tasks to earn extra snowboards and skis for your characters, and other missions such as half-pipe runs and slaloms. Slaloms, speaking of, are another part of the game that are frustrating. Some of them are just too strict, forcing you to perform tight, slow turns without giving you enough room for messing up. Furthermore, if you happen to be playing with a character who has an attribute for speed, you can consider yourself doomed unless you retry those slalom stages until you get them down. Other than the control and difficulty in slaloms (there aren't many, compared to the number of race and scoring challenges), I'd have to say that this game is a blast to play. Animation and graphics are nice, and there's enough content to last a gamer a while if they're into fast-paced games.
