Not Worthy of the Soul Calibur Title

As a fan of the Soul Calibur series (I have played 2, 2 HD online, 3, 4, Broken Destiny, and 5), I figured I would try out Legends. It is a poorly made third person hack and slash. Gameplay consists of entering rooms, being "ambushed", randomly swinging the Wii remote, fighting with the lock on system, and moving on to the next room to repeat. At the early stages of the game this just feels repetitive but later stages become frustrating when swarms of enemies start attacking at staggered intervals which means you have to keep blocking. This makes the timed missions very hard. Most stages end with a boss fight. The quality of these range from mediocre, and broken, dodge and remote waggle fests to atrocious almost impossible fights where you have to hack at the boss after their "super attack." This is made harder since the playable characters move as fast as snails and the bosses, and most regular enemies, can move like cheetahs. The story mode is the main portion of the game which is an odd choice for a game claiming to be part of Soul Calibur. As much as I like the real Soul Calibur games, I must admit the story is the weakest link of the series. This game is no exception. It consists mainly of still drawings of the characters and text dialogue where every other line consists of "..." The graphics are rather bland. Personally, I feel the graphics of the Gamecube version of Soul Calibur II were superior. Considering everything about this game feels rushed and sloppy, this is not much of a surprise. The multiplayer mode feels tacked on and fights quickly become waggle duels where the winner feels completely up to the whim of the detection system. New arenas and weapons are unlocked as the single player mode is completed, but they feel pretty much same. The music was decent, but who buys a game just to listen to the music. Other sound effects were generic and the voice acting was terrible. My Advice: Stay far away from this game that tarnishes the Soul Calibur name. Seek your hack and slash fix elsewhere.

Boring and has a formula-feeling

This is the only Soul Calibur game I have ever played and boy it was lacking. It wasn't bad, per say, but it wasn't good either. The game tries to spew plot at you but it just doesn't stick. My biggest problem with this game is the very annoying and repetitive layout. The mission trail style got old really quickly; I liked them in old RTS games (but then the missions were more fun). It just felt like a long to-do list--one that's out of order! I felt like I was hopping from location to location with little explanation of why. In addition, most of the areas are reused for different objectives. I seem to remember going back to each place at least two or three times (with the same music each time--the music loops a lot in this game). Be prepared for this game to feel like a math formula; you'll find "x" after the third mission (meaning you'll get the hang of it)--then you'll wish you never found "x" in the first place! The good stuff: the special moves were entertaining and the variety in characters lessened (a little) the mundane aspect that is so prominent in this game. On the topic of characters, a few were actually interesting and somewhat dynamic. The controls were actually decent; this is definitely a game that makes use of the Wii controls. But the lackluster layout of the game destroys what little good qualities this game has. I don't think I'd recommend this game to anyone.

This game is good for a first 3rd person soul calibur game. They should've put some more work into the gameplay. But everything else was good about this game.

Too much waving of the remote.

Ok. overall its a decent game but it is too repetetive. All you do is whack hack with your remote and you beat everything that way and your arm gets tired from it then all the enemies and even the bosses are repeated several times over which gets really boring after five minutes and the story line is relatively short. So if you like games that are repetetive then this game is for you, but if your like me you don't and i would not recommend this game to anyone.

This is not Soul Calibur.

I will have to say, that this game is slightly fun. The main problem is, this is not Soul Calibur. The story line is even barely the same. This is more of a search around game and not a side to side fighting game. You basically walk around and kill whatever, and after a while, the levels seem to get very repetitive. If you want Soul Calibur, don't get this game. If you wanna play this game when you're bored and have nothing else to do, then this is a fine game to get especially at its price.
