Overlord was one of my favorite (and is still one of my favorite) 360 games, so when Codemasters had stated that they were going to release a sequel on 360 and a prequel on the Wii I was very estatic. Overlord Dark Legend was developed by Climax Studios (who also made the prequel Silent Hill Origins, which was GREAT) and I'm happy to say that they did a fantastic job with Dark Legend. If your a fan of the first Overlord then you'll have a hard time not liking Dark Legend. Story- This is Cinderella but with the "Overlord" twist. You play as 16 year old Lord Gromgard who is constantly being ridicuold and verberly abused by his big brother and sister. While exploring the castle, Gromgard happens to find a hidden throne room where the Overlord armor awaits its next master. Guess what happens next... I love the little touches like not being able to see Gromgards face before getting the Overlord armor (he has a hood over his head and his face is "shadowed" out, all you see are his red eyes), or how Gnarl (the minion leader) gives you more backstory on previous Overlords and the armor, and you also get to see how the jester minion from the first part abtain his jester hat. All in all, a very cool backstory. Graphics- Dark Legend is without a doubt one of the very best looking third party games on the Wii. Now I wont lie, there are times where the engine has trouble keeping up with all the characters on screen (resulting in some frame drop) but the majority of the time its a fantastic looking game. The Overlord model looks great as well as the minions, and the world that Climax has created is pretty big with very nice detail. Bottom line is I was very impressed by what Climax has pulled off. My hats off to them. Sound- Great fairtale'ish music mixed in with dark brooding themes. The Overlord is once again mute but the minions are as lively as ever. Cant get enough of the minions "For the Master!" Voice acting from the NPC's are good and sound effects such as bashing pots and animals sound spot on. Controls- Everything here is great. Controlling the minions is incredibly easy. You just move the cursor with the Wiimote where ever you want and hold down the B button to send them all at once or just tap the B button to send them 1 at a time. The A button is used to call them back, the - button sets up a waypoint where the minions will stay idol and attack, and the D-pad selects a specific minion. You move the Overlord with the nunchuck, attack with the Z button, control the camera with the C button, select your magic with the + button, and use magic by pressing UP on the D-pad, and to scoop up a minion to use as a bomb you thrust the Wiimote in an upward motion and press A and B at the same time. Simple and effective. Gameplay- It plays incredibly similar to Overlord, so if you had no problems with part 1 there is really nothing here gameplay wise to complain about. Luckily Dark Legend has a world map this time around so you'll know where to go, something that part 1 lacked and made it frustrating at times. I had a great time playing this from beginning to end. Negatives- The only negative I can really come up with is that the game is pretty easy. You wont have much trouble going through the quest. Oh well...at least its a lot of fun so the difficulty didnt bother me as much. All in all Climax delivers with Dark Legend. If your a Wii owner whos looking for something thats different and was SPECIFICALLY made from the ground up for the system, or never got the chance to play the 1st one for 360, then you'll have a great time with this prequel.
yes: I recommend this product
