Another Sleeper Hit For Shmup Fans

A good arcade shoot-em-up is hard to come by these days, but Castle Of Shikigami 3 is worth a look. The gameplay is very old-school and takes place in a vertically scrolling, overhead view (up to 2 players at once). The style is standard anime fluff, with 10 playable characters...each with their own fire pattern, charge attack, and bomb special. Each character has a unique story which unfolds via spoken dialogue at the beginning and end of each level. Keep in mind that Castle Of Shikigami 3 is still an arcade game at heart, so it's not very long (it only takes about 25-30 minutes to beat). The difficulty is harsh as well, with walls of colorful bullets that'll make your eyes spasm. This is somewhat negated by the fact that your credits increase with every hour of play, so you WILL get to see the end with patience. It goes without saying that hardcore shmup fans will enjoy this one. However, it might be too brutal and short for the average gamer.

Great Shmup for Wii

This game fills a nice gap in the Wii CD based game library especially if you are a shmup fan and even if you are not. I must comment on the story for each character as there are ten. Some of the most hilarious bad in a good way dialogue makes it worth playing each character just to see it. Gameplay is great with sprays of bullets though not totally impossible to get through gameplay. Graphics are clean smooth and get the job done and they run at a rock solid framerate even when literally thousands of bullets are flying around. Sound in the game is decent with a non intrusive soundtrack and the sounds you would expect from a shmup although I wish when you defeated the mid and main bosses of each level they blew up a bit more dramatically but it still is decent for what's there. Price wise this is set at just the right price as replay value is pretty high with ten selectable characters a boss mode and other things to keep you busy for some time.A good purchase that fills in the shmup gap on Wii for now...Check out heavenly guardian and monkey hero for more shmup madness...
