Vampire Legends: Power of Three Review
========= Story ========= Story wise the game is rather predictable with a few of the usual staples for the genre. While, none of this is necessarily bad the lack of originality only adds to my problems with this game. Of course, my biggest issue with the narrative is that you can't apparently skip over a good chunk of it if you activate the amulets as soon as possible instead of waiting till later. In fact, I completed this game and only ever found the three amulets that you recover at the start of the game. ========= Gameplay ========= The game controls for the most part using the stylus while offering rather limited button controls. About the only thing you can do with the buttons are talk to people, enter the sewers, or activate events, but all of this can be done just as easily with the stylus. You can also choose to move with the stylus or utilize the d-pad, but you may choose to use the stylus because of how the combat work in this game. Combat wise the game uses a turn-based system where each character goes in turn based on their speed stat. On the downside the pace of combat in this game is rather slow since you need to draw a spells symbol before it can be used in combat. Though, I will grant the game some credit for not being ultra picky when it comes to your drawings of the spells symbol. On the other hand the game tells you every time how to draw the spell and puts the instructions on screen like the tutorial every time you cast a spell. It only serves to slow the game down and you'll spend most of your time casting the same spells time and time again. It also doesn't help that the game requires you to cast a spell even when you use skills that require 0 mana to use. Sadly, the biggest misstep in this game is the over importance of the mini-games. The biggest offender in this category is the fast travel mini-game where you try to fly through rings on your broom. If you fly through enough rings when traveling between two locations you'll be awarded with experience which you'll be in desperate need of because of how quickly the enemies go up in difficulty in this game. Of course, the game has a few other mini-games that offend in this area as well like the pet training, focus training, and counter-attack training which are all comprised of varying mini-games to make your moves either more powerful or last longer. And, annoyingly enough the game reminds you how to play these mini-games every time you access them. ========= Graphics ========= Graphically speaking the game is rather unimpressive with the character models looking like something from an early SIM game only worse. And, on top of that the game constantly reuses the same enemy models from the first chapter to the last chapter. ========= Sound ========= The game features no voice acting, but the real issue is the lack of musical scores in this game. It seems like the game is comprised of a three or four mere tracks that you'll have to listen to constantly whether be the music you hear on the world map, riding your broom, or going through the games only dungeon. ========= Lasting Appeal ========= There game doesn't really offer anything to be honest. There is zero post game content and no secret bosses that I'm aware of. So, the only thing you can do after beating the game is grind for exp. and skill points for your characters for the sheer sake of maxing them out. ========= Scores ========= Story: 6 Gameplay: 4 Graphics: 3 Sound: 3 Lasting Appeal: 1 Overall: 3.875
