Tough game to find...but thouroughly enjoyed the game. Any retro game fan (Early to Mid Famicom lifecycle) will appreciate the hommage that this game represents. Solid gameplay, controls and storyline definitely make this an extremely unique title in the DS vast lineup. If you get a chance to pick this up...do not hesitate.

Challenge from the past

This game was fun and unique in its own way. I liked the fact that they added some hard and challenging tasks for you to complete in order to unlock all of the games. My favorite games were Haggleman 3, Guardia Quest and both the Galaga-esque games. I highly reccomend this to retro gamers, and to people looking for a challenge too!

A fun, unique (un)retro experience!

At first, it sounds like a bunch of old games repackaged into DS format, but in fact it is something completely different. Retro Game Challenge is a unique experience you can't find anywhere else. Play 8 new games made to look like 8-bit games from the mid to late 1980's as you try to overcome the challenges given by the Brain Age dude's evil cousin, Game Master Arino (To be quite honest, that's what he reminds me of.) These challenges range from simple, to downright long and/or frustrating. Although this game seems to be more akin to a Game Boy Advance game, the presentation and use of the DS's double screen is quite clever. Use one screen to play the game, and use another to read off of in-game magazines to get cheats hints and strategies, just like your childhood spent playing video games and buying gaming magazines. Although I first played video games at the turn of the millenium rather than the 80's, anyone into retro gaming and gaming in general can relate to and catch onto the in-game dialouge given by Arino, one of the main characters, especially his younger self who your character sits next to. The games for the most part are fun, which is good, as they should be fun. Sometimes, they even surpass their real-world counterpart in terms of fun and gameplay. The RPG, "Guadia Quest," for example has a LOT less level-grinding than the original Dragon Quest and has much deeper gameplay. Overall, the game should be a must-buy for those looking to see gaming history re-written in a modern format with great entertainment value.
