Chinese Languae Students

I think this game is great if you are studying the language. I have studied for 3 years before I started to play the game and I learned a lot of words that I did not even know from the game. They focus primarily on the Beijing (standard) dialect but it is very good. The tones are right and they speak at a slow even tone so even a non-experienced Chinese student can follow along. For the people who said it is not good I do not think they have studied enough to even know the tones if they can not hear it in the game. A lot of my friends are Chinese and when I went abroad this past year even the people there were impressed by the game and used it to help themselves with English! It only teaches the simplified characters which is not entirely bad since that is what mainland China dominantly uses and unless you are going to Taiwan, Hong Kong, or Singapore you will not really use traditional that much. I would really recommend this game to students who want supplementary vocabulary and just a chance to practice listening and writing more.

I recently started taking a Mandarin Chinese course in College and this has helped me out a lot along the way. Mandarin is the main language of China unless you go to Hong Kong [I believe] or Singapore they speak Cantonese. Traditional characters look just like their simplified cousins, its not hard to recognize a Traditional Character after you learn it's Simplified companion, the traditional just has more strokes and it's harder to write and Cantonese is general is difficult to learn. Because of the large gap in the language barrier people in Hong Kong are starting to learn Mandarin Chinese and many of them speak English as a second language anyway. The game is extremely informative, the brush strokes are a bit picky however and it sometimes tells me I'm wrong when I followed the order exactly. I definitely recommend this.

I recently bought this game in hopes to improve my Chinese skills. When I got the game all was good in the beginning, until I actually wanted to learn something. When witting characters they used simplified, which isn't recommended because it is harder to learn the traditional afterward, and I would clearly write it in the wrong stroke order and I would still get it right. Heck, as long as I tapped the screen enough times I was apparently writing the characters just fine. When they tried to teach me grammar they would give me words and not explain them, so if I didn't know Chinese before hand I would have been confused or make wrong assumptions. Then we get into the systems pronunciation... for a beginner it was horrible at some points either they were using the wrong tones for the words or they just hired a horrid person to pronounce something for them. Unless they were saying one of the four "ma"s I had no idea what tone they were using. On the plus side the game has nice graphics.
