Diff. than the original but excellent port. Would recommend.

I had never played through a Ys game until I played this (I had tried Ys III on the SNES as a kid but it was too challenging for me to get anywhere)! I will say Books I and II are my favorite action RPGs after having played this. I'd like to note that these games tie in to eachother, so once you beat Book 1 you'll want to immediately start Book 2. The good thing about these games is they are not RPGs that consume mass amounts of time to play through, It personally only took me around 11 hours or so to beat both of them. The best part about this game was the music, every time I engaged a boss in battle, the music filled me with excitement (and not many games do that for me nowadays) - there is also a feature where you can listen to any track of the in-game music. Another cool feature is that you can do a boss run, where you fight through all the bosses and are timed, and if you suck badly and lose to any of the bosses, you have to start all over (it gave a little extra content and something else to do once you had played through the 2 games). I'd recommend this game to any fan of the RPG genre...its a must have and the price is right. If you missed out on these games from earlier platforms as I did, now is the time to play these..!

========== Gameplay ========== Both games come with the option of stylus controls or button controls and in my opinion you should go with the button controls to be honest. In the stylus version of the game you merely run into enemies to damage them while with the button controls you press a button to swing your sword or shoot magic. My only real complaints about the gameplay is that in the second game you'll largely rely on the fire attack spell to defeat regular enemies and bosses alike since the sword has an extremely limited attack range. While this is also an issue in the first game the short swing of your sword in the second game is far more noticeable and far more frustrating because of it. ========== Graphics ========== The game is rather bright and colorful for the most part with the dungeons being darker in both games. ========== Sound ========== The soundtrack for both games is excellent if there are a limited number of tracks between both games. On the other hand both games can probably be beaten in around 20 hours so you won't grow to frustrated with the limited number of tracks available. ========== Lasting Appeal ========== Ys 1 & 2 are both rather short games with vary few secrets to be honest. You'll need to find almost every item in the game in order to beat it which decreases a lot of the replay value since the games are rather straight-forward and simplistic in terms of combat. This is my first time playing a Ys game on any console, and I am completely blown away. It made me feel as if I was back playing Zelda for N64 and GameBoy. The music is incredible, especially in the dungeons. The gameplay is your classic awesome sword slashing, like Zelda. You can buy/sell weapons, armor, and other items to upgrade your character, find chests in dungeons containing useful items. All that good stuff. The graphics are perfect for this game. It takes me back to a simpler time of RPGs. I could easily play for hours on end. Anyone who loves a free roaming, no turns/strategy solo RPG would thoroughly enjoy this game. Along with anyone who simply loves classic style, extremely fun RPGs. By far the best RPG I have played in a long while.

Ys 1+2 is a classic game, there have been mixed reviews on it but I think that the game play, story, and music of the gave haven't aged with time. I only recently discovered Ys but I fell in love with one thing about the game. The music, if you pre-ordered the game it came with a free sound track and for a good reason, the music in the game is mind blowing. The beats and sounds have stayed the same for years. Ys itself is a classic tale which can push people away and bring them in wanting more. The game is simple and easy to get into and it might be a little predictable in story but it is still a good tale to be told. Adol, is a boy touring the land brought into a war that has been going on age long since the disappearance of a far off land and its Goddesses. Not much else to say, still, the game will warm the hearts of those looking for a classic adventure, even new players.
