I had not idea what I was getting into when I bought Frantic Farming. Like I usually do, I buy Harvest Moon games just because they're Harvest Moon games. I've been playing this series since I was a wee child and so I blindly follow this series for the most part. Unlike other HM games, Frantic Farming is a puzzle game that revolves around harvesting crops using a little harvest sprite. This game is incredibly challenging at points. While there are some puzzles in the game that are easy, once in a while you'll come across one stage that you have to do over and over in order to win the stage. That's one of the things that makes this game good in terms of having a challenge.Controls are simply a to advance, b to go back, and stylus for everything else. In fact you don't even have to use a and b, you can simply substitute them by using the stylus. There are definitely some games that don't work with the stylus but this game is perfect for it. In order to get through the stage you have to harvest crops and sometimes harvest chains of crops. In order to keep your sprite moving, you have to slide crops around sometimes, which makes the stylus a perfect choice for this game. I am definitely glad to see a proper and fun utilization of the stylus in a ds game. Frankly, most of the time I play games that have an optional use for the stylus I don't because I find it to get in my way more than help me.In terms of character customization I put a 1/10 because there is no character customization. It's definitely not a fault of the game by any means, there just isn't any.The graphics and animation are both very good. The graphics for the actual puzzles are pretty good, nothing to complain about. The vegetables look like what they're supposed to and the sprite looks like a cute, tiny little harvest sprite. For the scenes between characters there is simple 2-d animation that looks good as well. Also nothing to complain about. The length is very good as there are several different characters to play as. The individual storylines aren't very long, 2 hours tops if you play through them in one sitting. You play as almost every character from Island of happiness though, so the entire game is pretty long. The storyline is a little different for every character that you play as. Sometimes there character storylines coincide and you see similar scenes to what you've seen before, but that doesn't happen very often. Even though you play these puzzles in every level, the storyline keeps you going and wanting to play the game even more. I would suggest this game to anyone, not just HM fans. This is a great game to play if you want to just relax and try something different from the traditional HM games. It's also a good game for people who haven't played HM because you don't really have to know the storyline of any other HM game to play it.
