i have not played the other versions of this game so i cant compair.Like any other game it has its pros and cons. when you first start playing the game you have 2 options you can play story mode or a free form game. The story mode is cleverly set as one big tutorial. it slowly shows your how to build up adding one feature at a time.this made it easy for me and my little sister to under stand. not only is it easy to understand but is can also be challenging at the same time. The controlls are easy to find , to use,and are logical. the music is always playing and dosent change to the mood.this can kinda take away from the game. The free form lets you take the lead. You can set how harsh the enviorment is. you can set the fertility high or low. you can set and opponent how musch tax you collect from settlers and much more.Play the way you want!!! Pros: easy to use, challenging moves quicky so you dont get bored cons: music is boring, only good untiil you finish story mode and master free form

Surprisingly Good for a DS Game

For those of you who played the earlier version of this game (Anno 1701) you'll be right at home. The slick interface is back and better than ever, and now it's even easier to select buildings to build and such and so. The graphics are also greatly improved and so are the animations of the cities you build and the people moving around. If you are a veteran of the earlier version, you'll love this one bar none. (It also has some extra options such as treasure hunting, etc. It gives the gave even more shelf life). Now, if you've never played Anno 1701, long story short this is an exploration/city simulation game. It's on the Wii as well, but I have to say this game looks pretty amazing for a DS game. I was genuinely surprised by the high production value for a DS game (though in general Ubisoft games are relatively good in that sense). The level of detail is very good, which is very important considering you'll be staring at the DS screen for a quite a bit of time when you are busy building homes, market places, shipyards, etc. And you'll be doing it for a long time since this game is quite addictive, though the story mode offers gameplay in very tolerable doses so you won't get too totally absorbed like you would when you are playing the continuous mode ... which is basically a little sandbox that you can keep toying with. If you are a fan of strategy, simulation games, you won't be disappointed with this one. As I touched on earlier, the interface is very easy to pick up, and the sound and graphics are very good. It is also very intuitive and it helps that there isn't too much micromanagement involved since honestly staring at the DS for long periods of time at menu screens can get tedious. But here you'll often just be focusing on striking the balance between income/taxation and supply/demand issues, and it's quite cool to see your lands grow before your very eyes. I definitely recommend this game for anybody into the genre.
