I decied to write a reveiw from the point of view of someone who's loved both Dynasty and Samurai Warrior games. I've played them all other then the first two Orichi games. This is my first Orichi game i've played and I can't set it down. I've been playing for two days striaght and i've only gotten to chapter 3. this game is jam packed with content. Yes the game is only in Japanese but if you're a hard core Warriors fan it won't matter. I totally recommend this game to anyone who loves the Warriors games. worth every penny.
I'll get the biggest complaint of this game out of the way first. Why there is no English dialog baffles me. You have to read the sub titles to know what you are supposed to do and most of the time in the heat of battle, they are easily missed. It is a big deal for me and a great disappointment. This game sticks to the Warriors formula. Graphics are good, characters are detailed and there can be many many things going on at once on screen without slow down. Some of the character animations could be better though. There seems to be quite a bit of content for this game. Many different levels and chances to replay certain levels with a different outcome and story branches. If you are looking for mindless action, this is great. Not a lot to strategy, but you can equip different weapons and customize them with different perks. I have not beaten this game yet, but so far, I have had little reason to change my combo pattern of choice from X,X,X,Y (square, square, square, triangle for playstation users). So...mindless. The story is kind of interesting and having characters from different games that you can use has been neat. I have been using Ryu from the ninja gaiden series. All in all, it is a good game. If you are a fan of Warriors games such as myself, this is a good option, fun and familiar. If not, then there are better choices out there.
I was extremely disappointed when I received this game and realized the voices are only in Japanese. It would be nice if it said that in the Game description. It's hard to play the game and read the subtitles at the same time. The story is lame and the controls aren't the best. I think I will stick to Dynasty Warriors.
If I had bought this game when it first came out, I probably would have been a lot happier with it. If you've played Dynasty Warriors 7 or later, Orochi 3 will feel very old (and not in that good way DW3 and DW4 might make you feel). Story is...bizarre, but then again that's Orochi for you.
Some mindless fun for when you want to feel like an unstoppable force against pebbles on a beach and you are a tsunami.
