DEMO unit, not refurb
The ASUS Memo Pad 8 is a fair product. I use it for light web browsing and to stream music, so it does those things fairly well. The screen is fairly sharp and the tablet is fairly lightweight. Not too crazy about the placement of the volume + and - buttons, as well as the power/wake button, as I have to hunt for them. I also own an iPad mini (first gen) and I think that the ASUS Memo Pad 8 holds its ground for what I bought it for. Caveat emptor: I bought two units and both are demo units, not refurbished as per the webpage description. One had a few scratches on the back cover, and one came without the USB adapter (not the cable, but the little unit that plugs into the wall). Both units were full of fingerprints and smears on the screen. As demo units, they were locked to run a demo video and there were no instructions included on how to unlock these. Fortunately, I found a solution online. These inconsistencies suggest that GameStop has much work to do in its quality control department if it does not wish to have customers return their purchases.

Good once you get it out of Demo mode
It took hours after trying multiple resets and watching all my work vanish. The screen kepts going to sleep after 30 seconds, the apps I loaded disappeared. I looked like someone already used this and had an Asus "demo" account. Finally, after I was ready to return it I had an epiphany. I found this on a websearch: "when the demo video starts touch the screen once and then: On the content page press [back key ] for 10 seconds [pin code page] : key in [741603] start auto reset and you are done took me a while to find this info but you are welcome" Yup, that did it. I hope. Seems to be running fine, all the issues are gone. I wish when the "refurbished" the MeMO they had done this already, but then I wouldn't feel so impressed with myself!
