Originally released in 1999, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was one of the most beloved games of its era. Letting players control the biggest names in skateboarding with fast-paced, adrenaline-fueled gameplay across various real-world-inspired and fictional, over-the-top locales, inspired players to flock to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater in ways no other action-sports title had before. It was one of those games that almost became addictive in how it made players say “just one more try” as they tried to beat their top scores and combos.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, which released just one year later, took every successful element from the first game to the next level. Often viewed as the pinnacle of the series, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 added new moves to pull off while on the skateboard (including the transformative manual), and massive off-the-board features like the ability to design your own skatepark. These upgrades helped Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 to become one of the most critically acclaimed video games of all time, and a title that Game Informer at one point considered one of the top 100 games ever released.
Now, publisher Activision is bringing these two classics to the modern age with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2. Not only did developer Vicarious Visions obtain the likeness rights for all of the original real-life skaters from these two games, but those who formed their musical tastes around the stellar soundtracks from these classic titles can expect to once again skate to many of the same iconic tunes. Add to that gorgeous new visuals (delivered at 60 frames per second), an expanded arsenal of tricks, and robust online feature (including being able to share your created skateparks with friends), and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 looks like exactly what fans of the dormant franchise have been waiting for.
