From the team behind Mortal Kombat comes the sequel to the popular DC fighter Injustice, which pits the likes of Batman and Superman against each other in brutal, high-octane fights using a variety of special moves and over-the-top super abilities.
Injustice 2 aims to match the progression players go through as they learn the ins-and-outs of a fighting game with the visual and stat-driven progression of an RPG. After every match, players earn experience and gear that will make their character stronger. On top of increasing health, damage, or defense, special pieces of armor also offer new moves, opening up new potential for combos and strategies. This adds the sort of long-term hooks which could give newer players the motivation to keep playing and improve.
It should also appeal to anyone who's a fan of the DC universe, whether they're recent converts brought in through recent films or die-hard comic readers. Along with DC mainstays like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, the game's 38-character roster includes deeper cuts like Black Canary, Swamp Thing, and Dr. Fate.
Key to NetherRealm's success in the fighting genre is also the depth of their single-player, and Injustice 2 looks include the same diverse set of modes as the first. Focusing entirely on the alternative universe established in the previous game, the story mode follows the DC heroes as they attempt to stop an evil Superman from returning to power, as well new foes like Brainiac and Darkseid.
Between the gear-based progression system, the diverse cast, and strong focus on telling a fleshed-out story within a new DC universe, Injustice 2 has us excited for its May 16 release.
