Test Chamber - Watch Darth Vader Force Choke Us In The Star Wars Battlefront Beta

by Andrew Reiner

Star Wars fans likely have two dates memorized: November 17, the launch of Star Wars Battlefront, and December 18, the theatrical release of Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens. The countdown to both launches is made a little less painful today with the launch of the Star Wars Battlefront beta on PlayStation 4 and PC. We took a brief look at the two modes players can test out at this early time, and walked away mighty impressed by the classic trilogy vibe, and flow of combat.

We kick off our look with an 8 vs. 8 match on the planet Sullust. Tim Turi and I pass the controller on every death, and end up doing fairly well in this match. The next match we dive into is Walker Assault, Star Wars Battlefront's large 40-player mode with vehicle integration. We suit up as the Rebels and show off many of Battlefront's unique features, all while dying over and over again. Darth Vader even makes an unexpected appearance at one of our spawn points.

Battlefront is undeniably gorgeous. Whether you're running through the snowy trenches of Hoth or exploring the rocky canyons of Sullust, the details and lighting effects are among the most impressive I've witnessed on consoles.

Prior to jumping into the beta, I had my concerns about the experience DICE would deliver, but the gunplay and character navigation feel updated and smooth, whether you're using the first- or third-person views through the three modes in the beta.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from skip this game in solo mood your team mates run in front of you & make it hard to shoot & the camera angle is not great , why can't someone make a good star wars game is that to must to ask for or is it just a dream ?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but not great This game is awesome in the sense that it puts you the Star Wars universe. The sounds and environments are great, the controls take some getting used to put are learned relatively quick. What hurts this game is more of the lack of a story mode. There are single player missions and such but there isn't a Story mode and that's really where this game could have shined. The multiplayer is usually fun and works well. But the game doesn't grab a hold of you like I wanted it to. I'll play for an hour or two and then put the game down, come back to it after a few days and play a an hour or so again. Was it worth $60? Yes. Is it worth the $20 now? Yes. Is the DLC really worth $15 a piece? Not in my opinion, No. EA has done some really great work here and when Battlefront 2 is announced I'm sure we'll get another great game but hopefully with a single player story mode. And more space battles! If you haven't played the older Battlefronts I recommend you try those out as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from RUN TO A GALAXY FAR FAR AWAY! Don't purchase this game and give EA your money. That being said the game play when you first start playing if very fun with smooth controls and amazing StarWars craygasm effect. After about 5 games you will get bored and annoyed at the lack of content that AE has out into this. This game is not worth your dollar because it may at most be a couple days of entertainment. The powerups that allow you to be jedi or sith are spawn type powerups, so you will have a lot of players that will just camp the spawn locations and kill everyone because they have played so much jedi they can just eat through everyone. The map choice is too little to be a full fledged starwars game. Also the characters consist of BAD MAN - GOOD MAN! and there are no real differences between classes unless there are vehicles involved. which is only the case on 1 out of 4 maps. Also the game isn't finished, they just sent it out before they could get all the content up and running. DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome game. Honestly, I would expect the average rating for this game to be higher. This game was amazing. It really brought you into the Star Wars universe like no other game had done before. I was excited for this game since the trailer in the middle of 2015 i think it was, and I must say, all the hype, it was correct for once. All you people who hate on the game because it's not CoD or Battlefield in my opinion, are not fair comparisons. This is not a game you play because you want to play a FPS, this a game you play cause you wanna play Star Wars and experience the full potential of what most other Star Wars games wish they had. The mechanics are really good, as well as the fact that theres no ammo, just overheating, so you don't have to worry about running out of ammo. The vehicles really make the game that much more exciting, whether your the rebels and have A-wings or X-wings, or your the Empire with AT-ST's. (side note, unless you got some kind of rocket or ion weapon, seeing at AT-ST when your a rebel is literally like seeing the shark from Jaws coming at you). All the DLC of the game really isn't that necessary like other EA games or even Microsoft games. But if your a die-hard Star Wars and/or Battlefront fan like me, your probably gonna wind up getting them anyway. My only real wish for the game is that they will come out with DLC that includes the prequel stages like in Battlefront II, like Geonosis. Overall, this game was well worth the wait and money and strongly recommend it to any Star Wars fan.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing Don't listen to all that everyone else says this game is perfect for all types of gamers, is fun and is a amazing game in every aspect that everyone has to buy. Even if not a star wars fan you will still love this game... no matter what.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing fun even without a single player campaign After 40 hours of the beta, I got bored and thought that I wasn't going to buy this game. My friend wanted me to get it based on the visuals and sound design alone so I gave in to pressure and bought it. I've currently logged 3 days of gameplay. Yes; 3 DAYS and I'm still playing. The graphics and sound design make you feel like you're playing a battle in the Star Wars movies! I don't miss space battles and the Fighter Squadron mode is super satisfying for a dogfight mode. Yes, there are only a handful of maps but they're so beautifully designed that you won't even mind playing on them over and over. With 9 game modes to choose from, each battle will play out different. If you're the player who likes to come home from work and spend a few hours playing a game, this is the game for you. However if you're the gamer who spends 6-10 hours per day playing a game, you may tire of this game after a few weeks.
