The Start Of A Promising Career
by Matthew Kato

Introduce The Journey story mode within the natural gameplay experience while retaining the rest of the traditional modes

The player heads look really good, but they are inconsistent in conveying the character's emotions in the story mode

The voice actors do well, especially Hunter and his grandfather. Despite real-life managers appearing in the game, they are unfortunately mute

The Journey can be played by player switching through the whole team or by being player-locked only on Hunter. Either way, the new physicality initiated by depressing the left trigger comes through

Whether you're interested in the new story mode or not, the bevy of modes and slightly improved gameplay means FIFA 17 has something for everyone

Moderately High

Real-life soccer players act out their own destinies on the pitch with each passing minute, but that's trickier in video games. FIFA 17's new mode, The Journey, has no shortage of inspirations; every match and season is full of them. But The Journey is in an ambiguous position: It gives the illusion that you're directing the tale of Alex Hunter, but you're neither in control enough of Hunter to take ownership of him, and the story of the mode itself can struggle to synch up to his actions. Despite this, The Journey has memorable moments and is an admirable first step worth experiencing alongside the series' customary modes and improving gameplay.

The Journey is an elaborate wrapper for the traditional Be a Pro mode, using the match rating feature to assess Hunter's performance based on the quality of his passes, shots, and positioning. This increases his abilities (along with his results in training sessions) and determines whether he's among the starting 11 each week. Hunter experiences the ups and downs as a young phenom in the English Premier League, and we get a glimpse of his personal life.

The mode is at its best when it captures Hunter's awe of the situation, such as signing with his favorite club from his childhood (which you choose). Like Hunter, I geeked out at seeing current first-teamers in the background and soaked up the occasion. The solid voice acting and character models add to these moments, as do settings like Hunter's childhood bedroom. Developer EA Vancouver smartly kept the story mainly confined to the world of soccer; it takes some detours into Hunter's family life, but they are only okay.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lack of Effort I would give this game a rating of negative stars if that were possible. I've owned FIFA products ever since 06. This is by far the most randomized game without any relation to the players skill level. Have fun!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible This game will make you play through a whole 90 minute match online and disconnect you at the very end to give you a loss when you clearly won the game 3-2. It will give you a loss in FUT Champions where each and every win is crucial. I don't bother contacting EA Support anymore because all they will do is give you a free FUT Draft token which is completely useless in FUT Champions. Overall, this game will stress you out so much to the point where you write a one star review on the gamestop website. If you decide to get this game, be prepared to get screwed over about once a day.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from eh game I find the game kinda stale at this point, there are also too many bugs within the game itself. Theres not much enjoy of the game besides playing my friends. Even my friends don't enjoy the game that much.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from FIFA is FIFA, and I wouldn't ask for anything else Fifa 17 is surprisingly innovative compared to last year's installment. Gameplay of course is better and graphics are improved through the Frostbite Engine. You can defintely tell the hehe difference if you go back and play Fifa 16 it feels like a whole different game. Also Pro Clubs and Ultimate Team have some positive additions, such as the way your Pro levels up and the Weekend League on FUT. Overall Fifa is Fifa and if you are a true football fan you can't pass it up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Its basically just amazing. Well to start off my review I will have to say is what a game Fifa 17 been so far. I got it the same day it came out (i didn't have EA access) and the first thing I HAD to play was of course the brand new feature "The Journey". And my gosh was it a good feature to the game. The Journey is based off a Premier League player (Marcus Rashford) and it was spot on.I really enjoyed when James Rodriguez was talking about "Alex Hunter" in a interview. But to my next subject. Online Seasons (not ultimate team).I thought it was a amazing and addicting part to the game.It still is.I played usually like 2 hours a day and its still pretty fun.My only complain is sometimes the game is a bit laggy and I cant play to my full potential because I'll be passing the ball to one of wings and the second later the other team has the ball. Also another complain is that the skill moves have a bit of a delay. Also sometimes the shooting. For example I'll be having the ball right infront of the penalty box and I want to shoot the ball but sometimes the play desides to pass the ball late and the opposite team gets the ball and when my CAM gets the ball again a second later the ball goes flying because the shooting bar was at full because when i was trying to shoot the first time. But to my next subject. (Pro league) god dang that feature is fun.Like its really funnnn.I play it with my friends all the time and its just straight up fun. Its basically PRO-AM (2k basketball) but for soccer and I play as a striker so Im always the one to be shooting the ball (which I excel at).To my last subject its Ultimate team. I nevered really played Ultimate team before because they had seasons and they always had FIWC (FIfa Interactive World Cup) on seasons. But they changed it to ultimate team and its called "Fut champions) where you qualify to a online tournament with the squad you have. Its pretty fun and you get to have different ranks and like elite and gold. Also you get to win pretty good prizes like packs and coins. But I like fut draft.Fut draft its where its at.Its sooo funnn.Like I like making a high rating team and just destory people with it.To play you need 15000 coins a little expensive but its pretty much worth it because the prizes this year are BOMB.Like people get "Walk Outs" (the new pack opening animation when you get a high rated player) and coins just for not even winning like sometimes when you make it to the final game you get better prizes when you lose in the first 3 matches then when you go to the final. But yeah my review is basically a 10/10 because the game is so much fun.And personally im a Barcelona fan till I die. But sense Barcelona singed a contract with PES (Pro evolution Soccer) they put Messi's rating down. Even tho the previous Fifa's he was always the most high rated player in the game. I thought that was pretty dumb but it is what it is I guess. Also FIFA is a great party game if you just tryna chill with your friends. But yeah get xbox live if you tryna have the best expierence in the game. Also buy Fifa points (with real money) if you tryna start a Ultimate team to play in FUT champions because people already have raw players while others havent even got the game yet.But yeah FIFA 17 IS THE BEST GAME IN THE WORLD

Rated 3 out of 5 by from ehh This game is ehh dont know why people like this game so much you look like ants on the tv no matter the size

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Outstanding Take into account the fact that I almost always love Fifa, but I think that 2017's edition is fantastic. It is the single greatest addition to this series in recent times. What really stands out is the gameplay and animation. I don't know the actual technical specifics, but the "Frostbite Engine" that they made such a big deal about looks awesome, especially with the passing. As for the 'journey' - great they added a story mode to the game and it brings a new dimension to the game which is welcomed. It is at least in the conversation for the best football game that I've played and, yeah it's very good.
