Fans and newcomers alike will get lost in the games hallmark rewarding gameplay and immersive graphics. Now only embers remain...

Dark Souls III

Familiar But Fascinating Fantasy
by Daniel Tack

Seek out the Lords of Cinder and return them to their thrones to restore flame to a decaying world of ash

Beautiful and varied environments, including my personal favorite from the entire franchise (including Bloodborne)

Intense and orchestral boss tunes, chilling screams, and terrifying enemies crawling, laughing, and clanking around shape the world around you

This is a challenging game compared to many other available titles on the market. Though the difficulty curve begins mild, be ready for that to change as you progress

An excellent entry in the fantasy series featuring unique environments, bosses, and a massive wealth of secrets and surprises

Moderately High

After a divisive second installment in the Souls series, many questions are swirling around Dark Souls III. Will players continue to be surprised as they move through beautiful environments that are as imaginative as they are deadly, or will franchise fatigue set in? Can the massive, grotesque, and intimidating bosses continue to drive fear into the hearts of players and inspire them to overcome seemingly impossible challenges through perseverance and sheer force of will? Can From Software do it again? The answer is yes, From Software and Hidetaka Miyazaki have created yet another masterful and challenging action RPG experience.

Combat depends greatly on the playstyle you choose. Whether you're playing with a heavy shield designed to take blows or dashing about and rolling, knowing your opponent's abilities and moves is as important as knowing your own. Deliberate, precise attacks - coupled with judicious defense - are the only way to victory. Failure to abide by these rules, like recklessly charging around as you would in a typical action game, invariably ends in a crushing defeat that sends you back to a bonfire - minus your payload of collected souls. Death remains a valuable learning experience for new players and veterans alike. New to Dark Souls III are weapon arts or skills, and while many weapons share the same abilities, some weapons have unique skills that are a lot of fun to play with. They don't change the core game formula much, but offer a nice new accent of flavor to combat, and are especially interesting with weapon types that didn't get as much love in prior Souls games, like bows.

Hundreds of weapons, armors, accessories, and spells are available, so you have the tools to get the job done regardless of your playstyle. You can be an archer, caster, shielded tank, two-handed brute, dual-wielding mercenary, speedy Bloodborne-style hunter (complete with items tailored to and referencing the archetype), and more. Respeccing your stat points is available from one of the NPCs you meet about a quarter through the game, so don't worry too much about making a mistake. This is a great boon if you accidentally mess up a few stat points or completely change your loadout after finding heavy armor or that perfect weapon you always wanted later on in the game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dark souls 3 A great game for the well seasoned gamer. or for anyone looking for a challenge. i always considered myself an expert gamer, but these games proved me wrong. i lack the focus needed to complete these games. but i really do love the series... the co op in 3 is much better than 1 and 2. get this game if you like Zelda but want something much darker and more difficult.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't be intimated by the games reputation I've put in about 1000 hours into the dark souls series, and if anyone can tell you the game, it would be me. That being said, please don't be intimidated by the infamous "Dark Souls difficulty". It can be overcome. This is a game that I truly believe every gamer should play, no matter how casual or hardcore you may be. All this game takes is a little bit of determination and patience. I would hate to see someone not by the game because they think it was too hard. Of course the game is difficult, but the pay off is immense, especially after beating a boss or participating in some co-op. In the end, dark souls is a masterpiece of a game that everyone should experience. Please don't pass this game up.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Script Junk Lazy Programming, The SAME stuff happen the exact SAME way. This game got old real fast. I guess they tried to make it hard, to make up for the small maps. I paid the same price I paid for all the Fallouts, Elder scrolls, I am STILL playing those. Make thing RANDOM so there is a reason to play!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If You Can Meet The Challenge, This Game is 4 You when i played the original dark souls, it was an impulse buy based on a game spot review, i did not know what i was in for, my dad was the one who originally bought it and after several failed attempts to beat it traded it in, long story short, a few years later, i vowed to conquer the 1st game and with patience, determination, and a little luck i conquered it, then the 2nd game came out, nowhere near as hard as the 1st one, but still frustrating to the impatient gamer, i eventually beat that one to, with little effort, and now there's this game, i have picked up my copy, and just like From Software Promised, this game is much more difficult than the 2nd one, and i dare even say the 1st game also, however i plan to conquer this game just like the other 2, remember, this isn't for those players, who casually enjoy playing RPG"s and laying the smack down on easy enemies, defeating any enemy in this game, from the weakest of the weak, to the strongest of the strong, requires planning, determination, patience and luck.......have fun lol

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Now the world shall know pain... This game is amazing. Dark souls 3 was yet another amazing game in the souls series. It keeps me on my toes, the graphics are so amazing, and the story.. lets just say AMAZING... in the game case, it comes with a little guide to tell you what everything is in the game so you know... and in the end it gives you ADVICE ON HOW TO COPE WITH YOUR ANGER TOWARDS THE GAME. If that doesn't show you how unique and amazing this game is, go back and play call of duty as a "gamer" a true gamer will have this game in their collection.
