Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent All you need to know. Space Marines. Orks. Power armor. Chainswords. Jump jets. Seriously, slamming into the ground during the jump jet missions is absolutely fulfilling all on it's own. Watching orks explode and fly in all directions from the crater you leave in the ground is 100% awesome.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not quite up to the impressions I am a longtime of the Warhammer 40k universe. While I don't have the money to invest in the tabletop, I enjoy the books and other games for it. When I first saw the previews for Space Marine, I was rather hopeful for a solid, entertaining game. What I got was. . .less than that. The controls were rather easy to adjust to, so no points off for that. Shooter games tend to have similar controls, and that was a plus. The music for the game was in line with that I've come to expect from the Dawn of War computer RTS games (also by relic and THQ), so the familiarity had me. However, the points started falling away when you come to gameplay and storyline The gameplay was annoyingly repetitive for most of the game, and in some cases stupidly difficult. For being a Space Marine, you are supremely easy to kill. Not that being immortal and invincible would have been much better. Certain battles took me literal hours to pass, which led to more annoyance than enjoyment. The weapon selection, while limited, was in keeping with the Space Marines canon, so I give props for not throwing in something weird or outlandish. The storyline, for me, was the final straw. With all the lore of the Warhammer 40k universe, I was hoping for something more interesting than was delivered. Orks attack a planet, Space Marines run in to save the Titan on the planet, then Chaos comes in to mess everything up. It is something that has been played out many times before, notably in THQ's other W40K series, Dawn of War. The game would have been better off without the storyline, in my opinion. So while it does have its redeeming points, the game could have been much better. I would have been willing to play a sequel to it if one ever came out, simply to see if it had improved any or not. This one, however, was a play-and-trade special for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Space Marine - A great "sleeper" Game It's been a few months since I've played this so I don't remember it all but anyway... Space Marine is probably a game that not many know of, but it actually is a really great game. To me the game plays like a mix of Gears of War and a bit of Hack N' Slash. The control layout and weapon cycling is very similar to Gears, being able to hold a few weapons and using the d-pad to switch, so if you've played Gears you'll be able to figure it out very fast. The story is decent length and pretty good but I didn't know a lot of what they were talking about which I assume came from past games, but it has a lot of twists and turns you will understand that make it very interesting. The story has you doing a lot of different things to keep you interested instead of the same repetitive actions over and over. You will have many different options in battle because a lot of the weapons must be used in different ways to succeed. Some levels you get to use the jetpack, which makes for insane fun and slaughter if combined with one of the power melee weapons. Multiplayer is actually really fun in this game. You have a lot of customization options for your character and gun classes. You can stay on the ground and fight, or fly around with a big hammer and smash people, either is very fun if you succeed. There are many different game modes similar to Domination, Capture the Flag, and Territories. There is also a horde type mode which is very fun because you get to work together as a team and just slaughter the enemy orcs. OVERALL: All in all this is a great Gears-like game that has a lot to offer. The story will entertain you and bore you, and the multiplayer is actually very intense and exciting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Summit of good lore I am in no way on earth a fan of first or third person shooter games. However I am a huge fan of the Warhammer 40k franchise and this game caught my eye. I purchased it and played it at home. I was amazed and thoroughly impressed with the game, while the gameplay and gore are around Gears of War like. The story line and mythology associated with any W40k game can turn even the sourest of games good. this game is a must play for both those looking for blood and guns, and for those dedicated to good lore and great story.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not even worth the discount bin price. Definitely one of the weaker first person shooters I've played. There are elements of it that I like, and the gameplay isn't bad, but the campaign just drags on, and on, and on... and then on some more, at which point you'll realize that thank god, it's almost over... only to discover that, oh god, it's not over yet, and then later you'll learn that you aren't even half way through the campaign yet at that point. The story is transparent at best, and starts to get really old after the first 8-10 hours, (that's how much time I've logged on it so far, and still haven't reached the half-way mark, playing on Normal mode, and I consider myself a fair FPS player, though certainly not an expert, I have died occasionally). I do agree to an extent that it has the look and feel of a GOW game, but those games are at least entertaining. I've seen worse graphics, but I've seen far, far better. If you're a die-hard warhammer fan, you may get more enjoyment out of it, as for me I know next to nothing about warhammer, and throughout the game I've learned extremely little about warhammer or the backstory to what's going on, if there is any backstory. And the characters are absolutely forgettable, as I said, I've put at least 8-10 hours on it over the course of 3 days, and I still can't remember the name of my own character, let alone anyone else in the game. And one last odd little quirk, they all talk with strangest accent, I'd almost swear it was british, but then again it's not. For the most part it's not an issue, but there are several words that are pronounced very unusually, get used very often, and drive me nuts because it's a distraction trying to figure out what they're saying. The best example would be lieutenant, a word that gets used constantly, and it sounds like they're saying left-tenant. Anyways, I'll probably finish the campaign eventually, but I doubt I'll waste the time to replay it on a harder difficulty to get more Gamerscore points. I'm just glad I didn't pay for it, (a friend who's a huge warhammer fan bought it, and loaned it to me).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from GOW rip-off this game is awful, for a game that is so new the graphics look like they are from 2006. another thing is it is dreadfully boring all of the enemy are the same. the first thing i noticed after starting was that the game look exactly like gears of war, but worse. also the characters have no personality, they are bland and have no emotion. overall i hate this game and would never recommend it to anyone.
