by Dogbite It is what it is
It is what it is. A poorly put together hack em slash em game with tons of gore. I liked the older games when I was younger and sure it put a smile on my face when I started it up, but I guess now that I’m older I want more out of my games than some heavy metal to listen to while I smash heads in over and over and over. The game is very repetitive and the commentary from the mask gets old fast. All and all the only thing I liked about this game was the soundtrack. They have a decent list of main stream metal bands like Lamb of God and a few others. If you find this in the bargain bin and you need a few hours of your life to waste away then go ahead and pick it up. If not save your money for a better game

The game is good.... It has really intense moments and then moments that you want to rip your hair out in frustration. First off this is not a childrens game!!! There is endless amounts of blood. Heavy metal music that is not child appropriate, and images that will give small children nightmares. The gameplay is similar to God of War but with a more M rated twist. The story is decent and it kept me entertained. The level of difficulty is ridiculous. Though the game has multiple levels of difficulty to choose from they are really all the same...HARD. The only thing holding this game back from being great are the checkpoints. You may be in an intense fight after you watch a cut-scene. Then you might die....then you must work your way back up to the cut-scene. Watch it, then attempt the fight all over again. It doesn't sound that bad but believe me it is worse than I make it sound. All in all if you like metal music, and blood, and more blood, then this game is for you.
Rated 0 out of 10 by Kurk the Gamer Splatterhouse: the only reason to buy an Xbox.
I'm a Wii man myself; and have nevered heard of the Splatterhouse house franchise until late in the summer of 2008; When I played the first game for the Turbo Grafix16; I was hooked to it. I could see why this game is considered one of the best old school series that rarely is ever talked about. When I heard that Namco was creating a Remake of the first game in 2009. I literly cried tears of joy, and started to save up my money to buy a Xbox 360. From the screen shots that I have seen; It's going to be a great and gory game that will make fans of the series drool, and make people who play the games for the first time become addicted to the game. personally, I would love to see some of the old bosses to make their reapearence as bosses for this game( seeing that the final boss of the first game does. I can't wait to see who else Rick has to Kill again.) Overall: buy this game; it will be worth the money in the amount of zombie killing fun you'll have.
Rated 10 out of 10 by BlackMamba Awesome game
this game is fantastic and it's a gore feast, and to give you an idea of how gory it is think of the suffering but twice as gory. Now don't expect this game to win any awards, because I have a feeling this is going to be a sleeper game that nobody will think about. This game is a remake of an old NES game and it wins me over. Now I'm not a metal fan in fact I hate metal but I do know good bands when I see it and it has a great selection and it goes wonderfully with the game. You can do some great finishers on the... well I will just say monsters because I'm not really sure what they are. Also you can use weapons even rip arms off and beat them senseless with it however sadly you can't use everything as a weapon, but that's something you can look over. What I don't like is the fact that it does an absolute awful job of telling you how to play your better off looking at the controls on the options menu. The other thing I don't like is how you can't change the difficulty setting during the game in fact you have to start the game all over again if you find it to hard. All in all this was an awesome game try it and fill your gory needs
Rated 9 out of 10 by TimR Blood and Metal!! What's not to like??
Overall a great game for going pretty much unannounced unless you were looking for it. TONS of blood and gore. Lots of language and some nudity in the game. It is pretty much just a smash em up and be creative on how to kill The Corrupted, but it never feels old (at least the first play through), because you are constantly unlocking new moves and switching between weapons and fist and mask moves. I just finished it and it did not disappoint for me. I love heavy metal music and it blended in very well with the mass destruction and blood shed. The commentary from the mask is pretty amusing and helps with the background noise when fighting or traveling. Overall, if you enjoyed the older ones back in the day, I personally believe this game does them justice and doesn't destroy the name. Hope this review may have been helpful in some way!
Rated 9 out of 10 by three30zero Blood, blood, blood
The main item in this game is blood. It covers walls, the player, and is even used for currency. If you are faint of heart, then this is not the game for you. If you enjoy spraying blood all over the place, then this is your game. The extra journal entries keep you plugged into the story of the game, and is a quite interesting story, actually. The sound is amazing, sometimes the sounds make me almost feel the pain of the monster I just crushed. Nice 2D sidescrolling scenes pay homage to the classic arcade games. Minus the load times and not always having a checkpoint in a difficult area, this game is great, if you can deal with the gore. That's what this game is about though. I'm a dedicated gamer, and I've never quite seen a game like this. It is truly worth playing, at least once.
Rated 9 out of 10 by annaslover Amazing game and alot of gore!!!
This game is really good. I bought it the day it came out and I havent beat it yet but I am about 3 hours into it. So far the game is great. The story is creative but kinda confusing at first but throughout the game you get glimpses that help you figure out what going on. I the does have a lag to it sometimes the game will lag for no reason. There is also alot of combos you can do and weapons you can pick up. The game really isnt repititive for everyone who is scared about that. The levels do change throughout and the combos and brutality keeps you interested. The gore is the best part you can break and rip off pretty much anything and bloood is everywhere. The game is difintly for adults only and there is nudity that I have seen so far too. This game is great and worth the money sooo Get It !!
Rated 7 out of 10 by sammyoo1 Splatterhouse is OK
Spatterhouse is a very gory game but that does not mean it is good or terrible, it just means it is a very visual game. The story of this game is decent, even though most of the time your fighting. You are probably thinking "Don't most games have way more gamplay than story?" In this case you are right but this has even less story. On a happier note the gameplay is prettty fun and the sound is pretty good too. One of the best parts about this game is the splatterkills. It is really interesting of how graphic their are. Last, but not least the lasting apperier is ok too. It is not the best game in the world but it is ok. If you are able to get a million games than you should probably get this, if not and you really wan't to try it, get it pre-owned.
Rated 2 out of 10 by LordOnion I don't get it.
I don't understand how this game can be rated so high. I played it for an hour and a half, turned it off, and traded it in immediately. The graphics were ok for the cartoony look it had. I understand it was meant to be like this but that doesn't mean I have to like it. The controls were awful and combat was frustrating. Bad camera angles leave you being attacked by enemies you don't see right away. I really didn't enjoy any part of this game. I was surprised by that considering I am not a serious gamer and play lots of different games. It got frustrating from the start and just never got to be enjoyable. I don't recommend this game without renting if first to make sure it is right for you.
Rated 8 out of 10 by Moose828 Not for kids!
I have to admit that I waited for the game to come down in price. After playing for an hour, I turned to my wife and said "I am glad I waited, but on the other hand I would have paid full price for it"
I wanted a game that had a fairly good storyline, lots of brutality and killing, and a high gore factor. SPLATTERHOUSE delivers that in spades.
The graphics are a bit dated, but you can forgive that as you beat things to death with an arm, a studded bat, a chainsaw...etc. Sure, some of the moves become repetitive after a while, but you can forgive that as you go on killing sprees.
With all of the gore/language/nudity, this is a game not for the kiddies!
