by VXXXXXXXXXXXXXX An Excellent and Ecstatic Experience!!!!
With Soul Caliburs ENHANCED customization mode, excellent graphic interface, 6 new fighters with interesting frame animaiton, the great addition of Ezio from Assassins Creed with a perfectly well done frame animated moveset, an interesting story mode, a challenging "Legendary Heroes" mode and the ability to choose the "Devil Jin" fighting style... THIS GAME IS A GREAT COMEBACK TO THE SOUL CALIBUR SERIES! WELCOME BACK TO THE STAGE OF HISTORY! If there is one lesson that I learned is that fans of Soul Calibur should NEVER trade in any soul calibur game with guest star characters! Those types of games are like golden editions to franchise!!!! I will forever keep soul calibur II (PS2/ Gamecube/ and (when I buy it)- XBOX), Soul Calibur IV and definitely keep SOUL CALIBUR V! Well done Namco! FANTASTIC! A 9.7/10! Even though some of the veterans are missing, I hope those veterans of Soul Calibur will be added as DLC such as Talim, Zasalamel, Taki, Cassandra, and etc. TMNT being in this game as dlc is not a bad idea either LOL. :)

by TheRealDMac Good engine, but where's the rest of the game?
Most of the reviews on here seem to either be extremely disappointed people calling the game awful or online junkies saying ZOMG YOU GUYZ BEST GAME EVAR! Well it's neither awful nor anywhere near perfect. I'd give it a 7, which for me means it was good enough to put several hours into, but had some serious room for improvement. First off - the fighting engine. There's a super meter now which is a questionable choice, but the fights flow well and this is the most balanced Soul Calibur title to date. Next up - graphics and sound. Absolutely beautiful, Project Soul does it again. Finally - everything else. This is why series fans are so angry. Most of the story is missing, it was supposed to be much longer but Bamco wanted money more than a quality title so Project Soul was rushed and actually still has unused voice recordings. The story takes about 2 hours and the rest of the modes are quite bland, Arcade is just a 6-battle time trial and Legendary Souls and Quick Battle are just around to grind achievements/practice against psychic AI. Also, things are just missing. You can't turn off the timer, or set handicaps, they still didn't bring back team battle, there's no mode where weapons have unique attributes, no character profiles/endings, some characters just vanished with no explicit story reason, etc. The online mode, however, has been greatly expanded and that's all some of you care about, and fighting games are always great for local play. If you have friends to play with, buy the game, if you don't, rent/borrow it first.

by Jackson22 Fun for fans, mediocre for newbies.
I am neither a fan nor a newbie to this fighting franchise. I have played Soul Calibur IV and I enjoyed it slightly but I am not quite a fan of the series, that being said after hearing of the changes made from its predecessor I excitedly picked up a copy of Soul Calibur V. I'd like to say that the excitement lasted but if I did I would be lying.
Not really interested in the characters back stories I could care less about who appeared and who didn't, but I am impressed with the diverse group and variety of fighting styles. My favorite characters would have to be Leixia, Xiba, Tira, Yoshimitsu, and Viola. Also the guest character for this installment was Assassin's Creed alumni Ezio Auditore who is a fun addition to the rag-tag bunch of misfit characters.
I enjoyed the idea of the story mode and the stills I saw before the game was released but I was extremely dissapointed with the lack of effort that the team at Namco Bandai seemed to display with the presentation of this story. Most of the story mode is all displayed in a poorly emotionally-reactant cartoon style that fails to live up to the splendid emotional voice talent of the cast. A few CG cut scenes were added and that to me was the high point of the story mode.
The graphics in this game are the best I've seen in a fighting game in a long time, they are crisp and clean and shiny and beautiful and down right glamorous. Unfortunately graphics are not enough to turn a pigeon into a peacock.
My overall score for this game is a 5 out of 10.
BUY OR DON'T BUY?:
If you're a fan of the Calibur series and you appreciate all aspects of the game I would say, Buy.
If you're new to the world of Soul Calibur and have no clue what anything on the cover is, Don't Buy.

I love this game series, but there is a few mistakes they made that I fear they're going to make again. First, and the worst, they're going to hop into the multiplayer bandwagon and have a terrible story mode and extra game modes, if any, for a terrible online multiplayer. Second, they where so right when they had chronicles of the sword in three. You had a full blown story and a twist to the game that made it more, that I played the game for many years. Yet with four, they replaced that with a standard, run-of-the-mill challenge tower. They didn't even leave a tournament mode. All of this, so they could have an online multiplayer that wasn't even half as fun, particularly when the developers of any game seem to fail to realise that the people on the internet tend to be jerks that will use exploits if they can't win, like turning off the xbox at the last second. I Think three was the best, four was a major step down, and I hope 5 will fix the issue. One bad game con hurt a series, but two in a row can kill it.
Rated 10 out of 10 by Ezio777 Simply Outstanding
This game is simply outstanding. Gameplay: The gameplay of this game is super fun. It has a much smoother system of gameplay then the other Soul Caliburs. Graphics: The graphics of this game are probably the best thing about it. The graphics are super clear and are very enjoyable to watch. Sound: The sound is spot on to each character. Ezio aldotre (bonus character) sounds exactly how he does in the assassin's creed series. Lasting appeal: I'm personally not selling this game at all. It's a great fighter for when mw3 gets a little old, and it's also fun to just fight against your friends. Overall: Overall I give this game a 10/10. I love having Ezio aldotre from Assassin's creed as a playable character, because he looks sweat and he's a boss. Campaign: Not gonna lie, the campaign is a bit short and meaningless (as it is in all fighting games) which is why this game (as all fighting games) is meant for multiplayer. Multiplayer: best thing about SCV hands down. All the characters are super fun to use and I definitely recommend getting Soul Calibur V
Rated 1 out of 10 by T3Dragoon This is a multiplayer game. Not true Soul Calibur.
It's like this game tries to suck. I got this because I love Soul Calibur. Going through all the characters to find out how and why they get Soul Calibur/Edge. Especially the guest characters. Makeing your own "soul" and sending it in the world. Ah good times. However this game is not that. Instead of finding a story behind each one of the characters you get one. One dumb story of a whiny little brat and his weak willed sister who are supposed to take over for Siegfried and Nightmare respectively. Want to find out why the awesome Ezio Auditore is in Soul Calibur world...oh well. Don't worry though. You can get titles that don't do anything, to show online. You can end up on leaderboards for time trials and stuff like that...Online. Cool as well you can send videos of your wins ONLINE!!!! If you are a fan of Soul Calibur never play this game it will make you sad. However if you want to play a fighting game where you can make a female character in bikini armor and whack people with a big sword. Go ahead and buy this game. This is a multiplayer game. Not true Soul Calibur.
Rated 2 out of 10 by Hirobite A huge disappointment...
I've been a fan of this series since I was a little kid, having played all except Soul Calibur 3. I greatly enjoyed all previous games, and still play SC4 every once in a while. When I found out that a fifth game was coming out, and with Ezio Auditore in it nonetheless, I was quite excited. However, upon starting the game, my excitement quickly dwindled to severe disappointment. The story is short and boring, with confusing transitions. The characters aren't very likeable, play awkwardly, and their backgrounds aren't very fleshed out. Most of the familiar characters have been replaced with annoying kids, and most of those remaining only have short appearances in the storyline. After the story is completed, there are a couple offline modes, which are all basically arcade modes with some changes, and online versus mode. The creation isn't as important as in the last game, as different pieces of clothing and weapons no longer have stats or bonuses. Overall, I was very dissatisfied and hope that if Namco-Bandai decides to make any more Soul Calibur games, they do a lot better than this.
Rated 7 out of 10 by themasterdancer123 This is a great game
I received this game from my nephew because he told me that he doesn't want it anymore, and i was shocked, this is a great game because i can make my own character and i can customize in-game characters outfits, some of the characters are okay, but others sucks, like Maxi, for example, he is powerful but he doesn't have any good combos that i can use, and there are others that i don't like, and the other thing i don't like about this one is that there aren't enough female characters on here, because those kinda characters is what i use all the time, and the story mode is too short for me, but overall, this is a great game because of the graphics, if it wasn't for that, this game would suck, the game play is okay, if you know how to do every combo , but i would suggest this game to anyone that wants hardcore games, and collectors that collect soul caliber series games.
Rated 6 out of 10 by Zappledd Disappointed
It's alright, but it just feels slightly boring. I was disappointed when I got it. The characters are pretty cool and the scenery is nice, but the gameplay is just slightly... Boring. When your pinned down on the ground, all the CPU does is endlessly slice you over and over while you wait thirty seconds just to get back up. I wish there were a few more combos or modes or SOMETHING that makes it a little more interesting. I would recommend super street fighter 4 arcade edition, or Injustice Gods Among us if your looking for a fighting game. If you have a wii or wii u get Super Smash Bros. But this game was terribly disappointing. I was really looking forward to it since all the trailers and websites made it look AWESOME, but it just didn't do it for me.
